Port authority fills spot made by retirement

The Southeast Missouri Regional Port Authority recently announced the retirement of a member of its board of directors and the appointment of a new member to fill the spot. Ron Whitaker of Chaffee, Mo., who joined the board in 1995 and served as vice chairman from 1997 to 1998 and chairman from 1999 to 2000, retired from the board in December. Gene Dement of Sikeston, Mo., was appointed to take his place starting Jan. 1. Dement was appointed to the position by the Scott County Commission. He will serve a four-year term.

Professor receives award for excellent teaching

Linda Logan, assistant professor of nursing and coordinator of Family Health at Southeast Missouri Hospital's College of Nursing and Health Sciences, has received the Governor's Award for Excellence in Teaching. Then-governor Bob Holden presented the award last month in Columbia in conjunction with the 2004 Governor's Conference on Higher Education. Logan has been affiliated with Southeast for 26 years.
