Former Oak Ridge woman named assistant VP

Cheryl L. Venable, daughter of Jerry and the late Laverne Schreiner of Oak Ridge, has been named vice president of FedACH Support Services, the Federal Reserve System's automated clearinghouse operation.

After five years at the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, Venable joined the Minneapolis Fed in 1996 as a management consultant in FedACH. She became a manager in information technology in 1999 and was promoted to assistant vice president later that same year.

She holds bachelor's and master's degrees in business administration from St. Louis University. Venable is a 1987 graduate of Oak Ridge High School. She lives in Lino Lakes, Minn., with her husband, Steve.

CPA attends training seminar on IRS code

Harold G. Fallert, a CPA with Schott & Van de Ven Certified Public Accountants, has attended the Sophisticated Section 1031 Transactions training course.

Internal Revenue Code Section 1031 deals with like-kind exchanges.

The advanced level seminar covered the proper methods of documentation required for exchanges, including tax and financial issues. Held in St. Louis, the seminar was presented by the National Business Institute. Fallert has been an accountant for more than 40 years and serves as the tax manager of the firm.

Kevin Dillon honored by Wehrenberg Theatres

Kevin Dillon of McClure, Ill., was recently honored at a meeting in St. Louis, awarded the 2002 Clyde Patton Award for managerial excellence by Wehrenberg Theatres. Dillon has been with Wehrenberg for 17 years and is general manager at the Cape West 14 Cine in Cape Girardeau. He is a graduate of Shawnee High School and a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University with a degree in business administration.

Two members of Kies Eye Center's technical staff, Melissa Reitzel and Lisa Thompson, have been certified by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology as ophthalmic assistants. They were successful in passing an examination for the certification, which is considered the standard of excellence in ophthalmology.

Workforce Investment Board hires assistant

Gretchen Morse of Benton, Mo., is the newest employee of the Workforce Investment Board of Southeast Missouri. Morse is the monitoring assistant for management information systems at the office in Cape Girardeau.

She started her duties in November. The board's office is at 760 S. Kingshighway.

Governor appoints two to state boards

Gov. Bob Holden has announced that two Cape Girardeau residents will serve on two separate state boards: John Sheets of Cape Girardeau has been appointed to the Missouri Dental Board and John M. Holbrook of Cape Girardeau has been appointed to the Board of Geologist Registration.

Sheets currently serves as an oral and maxillofacial surgeon in Cape Girardeau. He is a former associate professor at the University of Illinois Medical School. Sheets earned a bachelor's degree from Southeast Missouri State University and a DDS degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Dentistry.

The Missouri Dental Board adopts, publishes and enforces rules and regulations which regulate and define the acts and areas of practice which may be performed by dentists and dental hygienists.

Holbrook currently serves as professor for the Department of Geosciences at Southeast Missouri State University. He earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Kentucky, a master's from the University of New Mexico and Ph.D. from Indiana University. He is a registered geologist with the state of Missouri.

Missouri Board of Geological Registration protects the public from incompetence and misconduct; licenses only qualified professionals, enforces standards and encourages development and partnerships with existing small businesses.
