Victoria Moon doesn't let being a busy wife and mother of four young children stop her from volunteering. She was co-chair of the gala committee for the American Cancer Society in 2013 and 2014, and she is co-chair for this year's event as well.
The gala is one of the biggest local fundraisers for the American Cancer Society, and Moon spends countless hours helping to make the event a success.
Her connection to the American Cancer Society is a personal one.
"Both my grandmother and mother are breast cancer survivors, and we have a good friend ... who has recently been diagnosed with cancer," says Moon, who recently turned 40. "And, my husband sees a lot of skin cancer in his medical practice. Cancer has touched almost everyone in one way or another."
She enjoys working on the annual gala because it is a community event.
"Once a year, everyone comes together for one cause, which is great," she says.
Moon also serves as a board member at the Discovery Playhouse in Cape Girardeau.
"As a board member, I'm involved with the decision-making as well as the fundraising," she says. "I love that it's a part of the downtown community, and as a mom of four kids, I really enjoy taking them there."
Moon's four children range in age from 11 years to 7 months. She also is an active parent volunteer at St. Vincent School in Cape Girardeau.
"I've helped with the lunches and been a room mom, and for many years, I was a Girl Scout leader for my oldest daughter's Girl Scout troop," she says.
