NEW ON THE BUSINESS SCENE: DOLLAR TREE OPENS

Dollar Tree Stores Inc., a variety store offering merchandise at $1, has opened in the West Park Business Park.

The company, which operated 737 stores in strip centers and malls in 26 states, operate under a variety of names -- Dollar Tree, Dollar Bill$, and Only One Dollar.

The Cape Girardeau store is in the strip on Siemers Street, which houses Shoe Carnival, Staples and Factory Cards.

Dollar Tree was founded in 1986 and has grown significantly during the past few years, with 74 new stores in 1993, 82 in 1994, 94 in 1995, and about 100 in 1996.
