NEW ON THE BUSINESS SCENE: BBQ RESTAURANT OPENS

Bert's Barbecue has opened at 517 N. Silver Springs Road in Cape Girardeau.

The family restaurant near North Silver Springs and Themis will feature barbecued ribs, chicken and sandwiches, and home-made pies and bread.

Lieutenant and Bertha Smith are owners of the new restaurant.

Mrs. Smith previously owned a restaurant on Morgan Oak.

Joining the Smiths in the family operation are four daughters -- Cathy Nations, Freida Craion, Kim Smith and Dominique Smith -- and a son -- Clark Smith.

The restaurant is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 10 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday; and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.
