Charley Tinsley of Thomas Insurance Group in Cape Girardeau qualified for the 2013 Senior Marketing Specialists Advisory Council held in Las Vegas. The council is made up of a select few individuals who market senior insurance products and are among the top producers in the state and nation. Tinsley has been in the insurance business for more than 10 years and specializes in Medicare-related plans and plans for prescription drugs, final expenses and long-term care.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Gov. Jay Nixon appointed Dr. Terry Swinger of Caruthersville, Mo., as the new collector for Pemiscot County. The position became available upon the recent death of collector Keith Jean. Swinger represented the 162nd District in the Missouri House of Representatives from 2004 to 2012. A doctor of optometry, he has owned and managed an optometry practice in Southeast Missouri since 1965.

The Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce presented its annual Educator of the Year Awards at the Education Appreciation Banquet May 9. __POLLOCK NAMED PRINCIPAL FOR DEXTER HIGH__
DEXTER, Mo. -- Dan Pollock, a native of Eldorado, Ill., will be the new high school principal at Dexter Public Schools, the Dexter Daily Statesman reported. Pollock will assume the position in July. He worked most recently as a coach, administrator and coordinator of special education in the Crystal City, Mo., school district.
__ROBINSON EMPLOYEES EARN NEW LICENSING__
PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Two Robinson Construction Co. employees earned professional licensing in two additional states, bringing the list of states in which Robinson has completed projects and/or is licensed as a contractor to 30. Jeff Sutterer, engineering manager for Robinson, was notified by the South Carolina State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Surveyors that he has earned professional engineer status in the state. He is currently licensed as a professional engineer in 14 states. Paul F. Findlay, preconstruction coordinator for Robinson, passed both the engineering and contractor's licensing examinations for Nevada, allowing Robinson to now complete engineering and construction work for projects throughout Nevada. Findlay is licensed as a professional engineer in four states.
__BELL GETS TOP SALES AWARD__
M.A. Bell received the 2012 Mid-America Region Top 20 Agent Award from Realty Executives International. The Mid-America Region consists of three states: Missouri, Kansas and Colorado. Bell also received the Platinum Executive Club Award from Realty Executives of Cape County and the Pinnacle Level Award from the Cape Girardeau County Board of Realtors.
__JORDAN APPOINTED TO INVESTIGATIVE COMMITTEE__
Sheriff John Jordan of Cape Girardeau was appointed to serve on the Bipartisan Investigative Committee on Privacy Protection, the independent committee that will be investigating allegations surrounding the Department of Revenue's potential violations of Missourians' privacy.
__ISLE CASINO NAMES NEW GENERAL MANAGER__
Isle Casino Cape Girardeau general manager Chet Koch was replaced May 7 with a temporary senior administrator, Barron Fuller. Details regarding the decision were not revealed. A brief statement was issued by Jill Alexander, senior director of corporate communications for Isle of Capri Casinos Inc. Koch had been the general manager since the casino opened in October. "We are pleased with the property that we constructed in Cape Girardeau and are comfortable with revenue trends; we felt it necessary to make some changes to our senior management team in order to strengthen our operating results. Barron Fuller will provide strong guidance and direction for the property on an interim basis while we complete our search for a new general manager," Alexander said in an email. Fuller is the general manager of the Isle of Capri Casino Hotel in Boonville, Mo. Missouri Gaming Commission public information coordinator LeAnn McCarthy said no complaints related to Koch's performance have been received.
__GLEASON HIRED AS FOUNDATION DIRECTOR__
SIKESTON, Mo. -- Stephanie Gleason was hired as executive director of the Sikeston Public Schools Foundation, effective May 1, the Sikeston Standard Democrat reported. She replaces Robin Stoner, who retired from the position she had served since 2006. Gleason, a graduate of Sikeston High School and University of Missouri-Columbia School of Law, previously worked with the firm of Drumm, Winchester and Gleason until 1995, then as in-house counsel for Galaxy Telecom LLC.
__EDDLEMAN APPOINTED TO RIVER CAMPUS BOARD__
William Eddleman, vice provost and dean of the School of Graduate Studies at Southeast Missouri State University, was appointed to the River Campus Board of Managers. The Southeast Missouri State University Board of Regents approved the appointment of Eddleman to replace Ronald Rosati, who is leaving the university effective June 30. Eddleman's term will expire Dec. 1, 2014.

Mark McMullin of Cape Girardeau joined Moss, Stillwell & Surratt, Attorneys at Law. He specializes in personal injury cases, bankruptcy, estate planning, real estate and business organization matters. He previously worked with the A.W. Tammy Tankersley was named executive director of Love In the Name of Christ (Love INC.) of Southeast Missouri, effective May 6. Tankersley, a Jackson resident, has more than 12 years of experience at the Workforce Investment Board, where she worked a variety of positions, including case manager, assistant to the president and special projects manager.
__PETERSON ELECTED TO DANCE BOARD__
Hilary Peterson, instructor of theater and dance at Southeast Missouri State University, was elected by her colleagues to the National Board of Directors of the American College Dance Festival Association for the Central region. Her three-year term begins July 1 and runs through June 30, 2016. The association's primary focus is to support and promote the wealth of talent and creativity prominent throughout college and university dance departments. Board members are responsible for steering national ACDFA policy and are instrumental to the health and development of dance in the academy.
__MARTIN JOINS SOUTHEAST FOUNDATION__
Chris Martin of St. Louis was named director of corporate relations/associate director of development with the Southeast Missouri University Foundation. Martin, who began his new duties May 1, will lead the university's Donald L. Harrison College of Business outreach efforts to the corporate community and alumni in the St. Louis metropolitan area. He works from the university's St. Louis office at 16020 Swingley Ridge Road, Suite 145 in Chesterfield, Mo. Martin previously held the position of project manager in charge of regionalism and government relations for the Regional Business Council in St. Louis.

DEXTER, Mo. -- The Public Relations Committee of the Missouri State Teachers Association named Noreen Hyslop, managing editor for the Daily Statesman, as the winner of three of the organization's six annual Education Media Awards. MSTA annually selects one award in six categories for daily and weekly newspapers in Missouri. A seventh is presented in the area of television coverage of education. Hyslop won in the areas of general coverage, literacy and photography. The awards will be presented during MSTA's fall conference in Cape Girardeau.

Ken Oberlohr has joined First Missouri State Bank to head a new insurance division there. Oberlohr is a longtime Cape Girardeau insurance agent who will officially serve as the president of First Missouri Insurance Group. Oberlohr will remain at his current location at 2256 Kingsway Drive in Cape Girardeau as he transitions to the bank's headquarters at 2 South Mount Auburn Road. First Missouri State Bank of Cape County has assets in excess of $110 million and has locations in Jackson and Cape Girardeau.

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- Kevin Anderson, business development specialist with the University of Missouri Extension Small Business & Technology Development Center in Poplar Bluff, passed the required exam to be named a Certified Global Business Professional by the North American Small Business International Trade Educators Association (NASBITE). NASBITE's Certified Global Business Professional credential provides a benchmark for competency in global commerce. The designation demonstrates peer-certified ability to conduct global business in four key areas: global management, global marketing, supply chain management and trade finance. Only 29 candidates have received the credential in Missouri. Anderson is also certified as an Export and Trade Counselor by the Small Business Administration.
