SEYER JOINS FORD AND SONS

Chris Seyer joined the staff of Ford and Sons Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau. Seyer spent the past 22 years as both senior admission counselor and associate registrar at Southeast Missouri State University. He will serve primarily as a pre-need consultant, assisting those who wish to plan their funeral arrangements. He will also assist with funerals and visitations when necessary. He and his wife, Joni, are the owners/operators of Seyer's Kelso Kwik Stop.

IAAP MEMBERS ATTEND ANNUAL MEETING

Five members of the Girardot Chapter of International Association of Administrative Professionals attended the education forum and annual meeting in July in Grapevine, Texas. Members in attendance from the local chapter were Sherri Jenkins, Donna Wills, Doris Dumey, Marge Phillips and Barb Ostrenga. The Girardot Chapter includes members representing several different employers within the areas of Cape Girardeau, Jackson, Perryville and Poplar Bluff, Mo. Those attending received valuable information to use in their careers and recertification points for their certified administrative professional and organizational management status.

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Michael L. Parker of LPL Financial was awarded a professional degree in the field of long-term care, certified in long-term care. The program is independent of the insurance industry and focuses on providing financial service professionals the tools needed to meet clients' long-term care needs.

BLACK APPOINTED TO STATE BOARD

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Gov. Jay Nixon reappointed Dr. Martha E. Black of Charleston, Mo., to the Missouri Workforce Investment Board. The board serves as an advisory council to the governor and the Division of Workforce Development on employment and training needs of Missouri businesses. Black has been executive director of the Susanna Wesley Family Learning Center since 1991 and has served on the Missouri Workforce Investment Board since 2007. The governor reappointed her for a term ending March 3, 2014.

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- Rhenda Hutchison was top producer for May at Poplar Bluff Realty Inc., and Kurt Knodell was top lister. Knodell was also top lister for June, and Gary Featherston was top producer.

CLARKTON NAMES NEW PRINCIPAL

CLARKTON, Mo. -- Delane Beckwith is the new elementary school principal in the Clarkton School District, the Daily Dunklin Democrat reported. He previously served in the same position at Clarkton in 2001. In addition to his duties as principal, Beckwith will also be high school basketball coach and athletic director.

BIG RIVER BROADBAND ADDS TWO

FARMINGTON, Mo. -- Trevor Sullivan joined the Big River Broadband team in Farmington as a customer support representative. Sullivan, a native of Doniphan, Mo., previously worked at Scottrade as a workstation engineer. Ashley Ward also joined the Farmington team as an inside sales executive. Ward, of Desloge, Mo., previously worked in sales and management at Hefner Furniture in Farmington.

BARNES, LONG JOIN WORKFORCE

Lance Barnes of Cape Girardeau was named OJT coordinator/job developer for the Workforce Investment Board of Southeast Missouri. He is originally from Little Rock, Ark., and has more than 25 years of experience in sales. He is working from the office at 760 S. Kingshighway in Cape Girardeau. Additionally, Allysia Long joined Workforce as a business service representative in the Cape Girardeau office. She has experience working in management and with not-for-profit organizations.

PERKINS RETIRES AFTER 39 YEARS AT NORANDA

NEW MADRID, Mo. -- Paul Perkins of New Madrid, an electrician with Noranda Aluminum, has retired after 39 years of employment at the New Madrid plant. Perkins spent most of his career at Noranda working as a strand reconditioner in the Rod Mill; he retired as a maintenance electrician. He also served as president of the United Steel Workers Local 7686 for three years and assisted in negotiating four labor contracts at Noranda.

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Lee Bowman of Sikeston, financial representative with Modern Woodmen Fraternal Financial, was New Member Leader in the Missouri East Region for July.

She has more than three years of mortgage lending experience and previously worked for US Bank in Perryville, Mo. Teresa Haney joined United in July and works at the Cape South location at 2511 Independence St. in Cape Girardeau. She previously worked for Northwestern Mutual-The Hahs Group in Cape Girardeau.

O'DELL NAMED MISSOURI D.A.R.E. PRESIDENT

DEXTER, Mo. -- A local police officer will head the D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program on the state level for the 2012-2013 school year, the Dexter Daily Statesman reported. Lori O'Dell, longtime D.A.R.E. educator with the Dexter Police Department, was named president of the D.A.R.E. organization, effective Aug. 3. She will serve until July 2013. O'Dell served as of vice president for the past year and was a regional representative before serving in that role.

TWO REPORTERS TO COVER NEW BEATS

Two Southeast Missourian news reporters are changing beats. Scott Moyers, who has been covering the Cape Girardeau government and local politics beat, will be reporting on crime, courts and breaking news. Erin Ragan, who had previously covered education, will take over the city and political beat. Moyers has worked about 15 years in the newspaper industry, including 10 with the Southeast Missourian. He is familiar with the crime beat, having worked it early in his career. Ragan joined the Southeast Missourian staff in June 2011 as a reporter for Jackson and Cape Girardeau County government.

NEW MADRID HIRES PARKS AND REC DIRECTOR

NEW MADRID, Mo. -- Steven Medlin was hired as New Madrid's first-ever parks and recreation director, reported the Sikeston Standard Democrat. According to city administrator John Gilbert, the city created the part-time position in part to oversee all Little League programs.

SUMMERS JOINS NEW ENGINEER FIRM

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- Bob Summers, formerly a principal with Schultz & Summers Engineering, was named associate vice president and office manager for Horner & Shifrin, a St. Louis engineering firm that opened a regional office at 4061 Highway PP, Suite 1 in Poplar Bluff. Summers has been a professional engineer for 12 years. He is now responsible for all Southeast Missouri operations and projects undertaken by his new firm. Horner & Shifrin has additional offices in Springfield, Mo., O'Fallon, Ill., and Springfield, Ill.

DISCOVERY PLAYHOUSE HIRES DIRECTOR

The Discovery Playhouse's board of directors hired Pansy Glenn of Kewanee, Mo., as executive director of the Cape Girardeau children's museum, effective Aug. 24. She replaces Jennifer Mullix, who resigned to pursue educational opportunities. Glenn has experience in marketing, fundraising, grant writing and project management. She previously served as executive director of the Sikeston-Miner Convention and Visitors Bureau for seven years and, most recently, worked with Madden Media to promote tourism through advertising in statewide publications.

MARSHALL GETS REGIONS BANKING AWARD

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Dan Marshall of Sikeston received the Regions Bank Better Life Award. Marshall is the community banking relationships manager of Regions' Sikeston branch. The Better Life Award, the top honor given to Regions associates, is awarded for job performance and community involvement.

KOEHLER APPOINTED TO SEISMIC SAFETY COMMISSION

Gov. Jay Nixon appointed Jamie S. Koehler of Cape Girardeau to the Seismic Safety Commission. The commission provides, with the assistance of state and federal agencies, a program to help the state respond to a major earthquake either in Missouri or affecting Missouri. A retired major with the Missouri Army National Guard, Koehler is emergency services director of the Southeast Missouri Chapter of the American Red Cross, where she coordinates and ensures delivery of 24-hour response to all recurrent and nonrecurrent disasters and Armed Forces Emergency Services inquiries. The governor appointed her for a term ending July 1, 2014.

PARK HILLS, Mo. -- Brandon Scheldt of Farmington, Mo., joined the English department at Mineral Area College. He previously worked at Southeast Missouri State University, where he taught in the intensive English program.

A new director and business manager have been named to lead the Show Me Center at Southeast Missouri State University. Wil Gorman of Omaha, Neb., project manager with DNC-Sportservice at Scottsdale Stadium in Arizona and Rangers Ballpark of Arlington, Texas, is the new director. He began his duties Sept. 17. Gorman replaces David Ross, who retired earlier this year. As director, Gorman is responsible for overall management, and daily operations of the Show Me Center and its programs. Shannon Buford of Cape Girardeau, educational director at Metro Business College in Cape Girardeau and former marketing director of the Show Me Center, was named business manager. He began his new position Aug. 27 and is responsible for business affairs and financial management of the multipurpose facility and its programs.

JUNGE JOINS MINERAL AREA COLLEGE

PARK HILLS, Mo. -- Pamela Junge of Farmington, Mo., joined Mineral Area College's Allied Health Department as a practical nursing instructor. Junge received her CNA, LPN and RN degrees at the Park Hills community college and earned her bachelor's degree in nursing at Maryville University in St. Louis. She plans to obtain her master's degree in the next few years. She comes to the college from BJC Home Care, where she worked as a full-time, in-home nurse.
