STUEVER COMPLETES TRAINING PROGRAM

DEXTER, Mo. -- Andrew Stuever of Southern Bank, Dexter, was one of 29 agricultural lenders to complete the 12th annual Agricultural Lenders School June 6-10 at the University of Missouri-Columbia. The five-day program aided participants in analyzing agricultural credit and helping clients build profitable businesses. Nationally recognized experts served as faculty in the program.

REYNOLDS ATTENDS INSURANCE CONFERENCE

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- Lisa Reynolds, an independent insurance agent in Poplar Bluff, attended the Missouri Association of Insurance Agents 21st Annual Small Agency Conference. More than 500 agents and company representatives attended the conference, which targets small to medium-sized agencies around the state. Programs focused on product and technology training.

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- Paul Arnold of Coldwell Banker Ruth Holloway Realty recently presented awards to three employees: Brock Littles, President's Circle Award; and Rick White and Terry Baker, who each received the International Diamond Society Award. These awards are achieved by only the top 15 percent of all sales associates. Additionally, Littles was Top Lister and Top Producer for May.

HENCY COMPLETES DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

BENTON, Mo. -- Christy Hency, Scott County circuit clerk, has become a fellow of the Institute for Court Management. She earned fellowship and certification as a court executive after graduating from ICM's Court Executive Development Program, a four-phase educational program that prepares court professionals for management and leadership positions.

KELLEY JOINS FIRST COMMUNITY INSURANCE

Eric Kelley joined First Community Insurance Group, Cape Girardeau, as an insurance representative. He has been in the insurance services field since 2005, most recently as owner/agent representing American Family Insurance in Chaffee, Mo.

THOMAS GETS MASTER CERTIFICATION

Bruce V. Thomas, a board of education member in the Jackson R-II School District, achieved Master Certification in the Missouri School Boards' Association Certified Board Member program. The program, established by MSBA, helps school board members master the knowledge and skills needed to function as effective educational leaders. All newly elected school board members must complete a 16-hour program required by state law; Master Certification is the higher of two levels of certification, requiring at least 40 hours of Certified Board Member credit.

FLORIDA WOMAN HIRED AS CAPE'S PARK DIRECTOR

Julia Thompson was hired as Cape Girardeau's new parks and recreation director, effective July 11, reported the Southeast Missourian. She has nearly 30 years of parks experience in Florida, but has strong Cape Girardeau ties. She currently works as parks and recreation manager for Seminole County, Fla. In her new position, Thompson will oversee 53 full-time and about 200 part-time personnel, and a proposed 2011 budget of $5.4 million. The department is responsible for care and upkeep of the 26 city parks, three community centers, a swimming pool, water park, two sports complexes, a golf course, three cemeteries and 11 miles of hiking and biking trails. Thompson replaces Dan Muser, who retired March 11.

SMYTHE TO CHAIR MBA BOARD

Mike Smythe, vice president and general manager of KFVS-TV/WQWQ-TV, was named chairman of the Missouri Broadcasters' Association Board of Directors. The appointment was made at the association's annual convention June 3-4 at Lake of the Ozarks. MBA members currently represent 303 Missouri radio stations and 48 television stations.

GRANT NAMED TO CHAIRMAN'S CLUB

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Bart A. Grant, independent financial adviser at Grant Financial Management, was recognized as a top financial adviser and named to the LPL Financial Chairman's Club. The distinction is based on a ranking of all registered advisers supported by LPL Financial LLC, the nation's largest independent broker-dealer, and is awarded to less than 2 percent of the firm's more than 12,000 advisers nationwide.

REIMANN IS HALL OF FAME FINALIST

Carol Reimann, a literacy specialist in the Regional Professional Development Center at Southeast Missouri State University, was named one of five finalists for the National Teachers Hall of Fame. She previously worked for 33 years as a first grade teacher. Reimann is now eligible for consideration for induction in 2012.

JORDAN HONORED FOR SERVICE

DEXTER, Mo. -- Tracy L. Jordan, area specialist with the Charleston, Mo., Rural Development office, was recently recognized for 20 years of federal service. As a member of the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Development team, Jordan administers the Single Family Housing Direct Loan Programs in Mississippi, New Madrid and Scott counties.

NEW MADRID, Mo. -- Doug Copeland of Sikeston, Mo., retired from Associated Electric Cooperative after 22 years of service. A welder/mechanic at the New Madrid Power Plant, Copeland joined the company in May 1989.

MEHNER GETS STATEWIDE AWARD

John E. Mehner, president and CEO of the Cape Girardeau Area Chamber of Commerce, received the Professional Economic Developer of the Year Award June 16 from the Missouri Economic Development Council. MEDC, a statewide not-for-profit association of economic development professionals and community leaders, provides a unified voice for economic development. The Professional Economic Developer of the Year Award is presented to a member or group of members who have made a significant contribution to the field of community-based economic development. Recipients are chosen by senior members of MEDC. Mehner was nominated by Ryan Mooney of the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce and Mitch Robinson of the Cape Girardeau Area MAGNET. He has been president and CEO of the Cape Girardeau chamber since 1993.

BALL ELECTED TO STATE ASSOCIATION

Trent Ball, associate dean of students, Academic Support Centers, at Southeast Missouri State University, was elected public institution representative to the Missouri College Personnel Association for the 2011-2013 term. He was elected in May and will begin service this summer. MoCPA aims to promote the learning and development of students in postsecondary education institutions through the ongoing professional development of college student affairs administrators and student development educators.

HOVIS SWORN IN AS POLICE CAPTAIN

FREDERICKTOWN, Mo. -- Eric Hovis was sworn in June 13 as captain of the Fredericktown Police Department.

FREDERICKTOWN, Mo. -- Alan Stevens and Mike Sletton, police officers with the Fredericktown Police Department, are now trained and certified as Field Training Officers, reported the Democrat News. All police officers hired by Fredericktown must complete a 12-week training program with one of the department's field training officers.

HYSLOP TAKES HOME MSTA AWARDS

DEXTER, Mo. -- Noreen Hyslop, managing editor of the Daily Statesman, received three of 11 awards presented to daily newspapers in the Missouri State Teachers Association's annual Media Awards competition. Awards are granted in the areas of Editorial Columns, Features, General Coverage, Literacy Program, Photography and Series. Hyslop won awards in the area of Photography for a photo taken during Dexter's Goodwill Games; in Literacy Program for a 2010 article titled "GED -- Turning a key to Success"; and in General Coverage for a 2010 article titled "A+ ranking coming."

SINCLAIR VOTED DJ OF THE YEAR

Rick Sinclair, operations manager of Pure Country, C-106.1, was voted Medium Market DJ of the Year by the Missouri Broadcaster's Association during its annual awards banquet at Lake of the Ozarks. Sinclair has been on the air since March 2009, when he began working at Anderson Broadcasting, Cape Girardeau. Sinclair is also a broker/Realtor with Century 21 Ashland Realty, Cape Girardeau.

Heather Short joined United Way of Southeast Missouri as communication and marketing director. In this role, she will help develop and implement campaign and communication pieces, and will oversee social media. She will also keep track of campaign pledges and payments and reach out to the community to develop relationships for the organization. She previously worked in banking for seven years.

P.B. TRUCKER PLACES SECOND

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- Wayne Darnell, a driver for Con-Way Freight in Poplar Bluff, placed second in the Twin Trailers Class at the Missouri Trucking Association's 44th annual Missouri Truck Driving Championship in Springfield, Mo. During the two-day event, more than 150 drivers were evaluated on their knowledge of the industry, first aid, safety and federal vehicle inspections. Participants were then interviewed by industry experts before competing on a point value-assessed driving skills course.
