Mr. B's Pancakes and Steaks has opened at 3524 Route K.

"We're offering a bit different menu at this location," said owner Basil Barnes, who pointed out the restaurant is near Interstate 55.

Barnes and his wife, Patricia, are also owners of Mr. B's Waffles and Deli in Crossroads shopping center, Kingshighway and Independence, and Mr. B's Waffles Hut and Family Restaurant near Interstate 55 and Main in Scott City.

"We'll have a buffet every night at the new restaurant," said Barnes. "That includes a seafood buffet on Friday and prime rib buffet Saturday."

Other buffets through the week will include Mexican, German, Italian and pasta. Also available at the new restaurant are cocktails, beer and wine.

"We also have a complete menu to select from," he said. "We open at 6 a.m. and close at midnight except Friday and Saturday, when we have a 2 a.m. closing time."

The new restaurant provides seating for 150 people and includes a meeting room that will accommodate 30 to 35.

In opening the operation, Barnes has restructured the management team. Managers include Tom Durkin at the pancake and steak restaurant; Brenda Glueck at Scott City, and Darrell Chapman at the waffle and deli operation.

Kitchen managers are Jerome Smith and Gus Davis, and assistant kitchen managers are Chuck Ortiz and Ray Borgfield."

The Barnes family has been in the restaurant business a number of years. They opened Pete's Pumps in 1984 and operated that business for more than six years before opening a 24-hour operation at the Crossroads in February 1990.

"This is a business that I enjoy," said Barnes. "We work at it. We provide a friendly atmosphere. When people leave our places, they leave with a little fellowship as well as a full stomach."
