Scholastic Inc., based in Jefferson City, Mo., and Premier Turbines of Neosho, Mo., received 2001 Missouri Business of the Year awards recently during an awards ceremony at the Capitol Plaza Hotel in Jefferson City.
Scholastic Inc., which employs more than 3,000 employees at locations in Jefferson City, Neosho and Moberly, Mo., received the Associated Industries of Missouri (AIM) award for large companies. Scholastic was founded in New York City in 1920. The Jefferson City facility opened in 1968 and became the company's only international distribution center, handling all orders and shipping worldwide.
Premier Turbines received the medium company award. The company was established in 1956 to manufacture liquid-fuel rocket engines for the U.S. space program. The facility was purchased by Premier's parent, Sabreliner Corp., in 1992, and has been used mainly for the repair and overhaul of military and commercial aircraft engines.
AIM presents "Business of the Year" awards each year. The Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce submits its annual "Industry of the Year" and "Small Business of the Year" winners for the state competition.
