Old Town Cape, Inc., the Missouri Main Street Community in Cape Girardeau, will receive $22,000 in technical assistance from the state Department of Economic Development.

The money will include funding for workshops focused on downtown revitalization efforts. Old Town Cape includes parts of Broadway, the downtown shopping district and the Haarig district along Good Hope.

Experts will visit the city for workshops and seminars. They include John Schallert who will talk about turning businesses into a destination; a consultant to help volunteers develop a strategic plan; and ArtSpace, a Minnesota group that will help property owners learn to develop their property into places where artists can live and work.

The promotions committee for Old Town Cape also will receive training as part of the assistance.

During October, Old Town Cape will receive its first assessment from the Missouri Main Street program. The city joined the revitalization effort in February 2000.
