Wal-Mart Supercenter of Cape Girardeau will share a portion of its holiday sales Saturday with a local charity.
"The holidays are an appropriate time to give something back to a deserving community program," said Terry Godwin, store director of the local Wal-Mart store.
Wal-Mart will donate a percentage of store sales from 7 to noon.
This season marked the fourth year Wal-Mart will donate a percentage of holiday sales to local charities. Wal-Mart, nationwide, contributed more than $2.45 million to community charities through this activity last year.
The Spirit of Saint Francis, the employee newsletter at St. Francis Medical Center, has been recognized as one of the best hospital newsletters in Missouri.
The St. Francis Marketing & Public Relations Department received first-place recognition for its newsletter in the "Under $100 per issue" category of the annual Show Me Excellence competition sponsored by the Missouri Association for Hospital Public Relations and Marketing (MAHPRM). The award was presented during the Missouri Hospital Association's 1994 convention earlier this month at Lake of the Ozarks.
The St. Francis publication is a newsletter written and designed on a desktop publishing system and printed by the medical center's in-house print shop. This is the second consecutive year "The Spirit" has received top honors in its category.
Spartech Corp. has applied to list its Common Stock and 9 percent Convertible Subordinated Debentures on the New York Stock Exchange.
The company expects its securities will begin trading on the NYSE under its present symbols -- common stock (SEH), and debenture (SEHA.A) -- on Dec. 7. The company has 8,628,623 shares of common stock and $10,134,000 of debentures outstanding.
"We believe that listing on the New York Stock Exchange will provide a broader market for our securities and afford Spartech the opportunity for a more diversified shareholder base," said Spartech president and chief executive officer Bradley B. Buechler. "In addition, we expect that our securities will benefit from the increased visibility and liquidity afforded by the NYSE listings."
Spartech, which has two operations in Cape Girardeau -- Spartech Plastics at 2500 Spartech Drive and Spartech Compounding on Nash Road -- is an intermediate processor of thermoplastics.
ANNA, Ill. -- Anna-Jonesboro Chamber of Commerce members will vote on a name change next month.
The chamber's board of directors recently approved a proposal to change the name to "Union County Chamber of Commerce," and chamber members will vote on the change during its annual membership meeting, to be held at Veterans of Foreign Wars Carroll P. Foster Post 3455 Dec. 13.
The chamber has 72 members.
Disc Jockey Music Store in West Park Mall in Cape Girardeau recently expanded its operation to include a Reel Collections store.
Reel Collections is a video entertainment center that features theatrical and music videos. Consumers can select from a variety of licensed products that include plush animals, movie mugs, T-shirts and jackets emblazoned with artwork depicting movie characters and themes.
Disc Jockey Music Store, headquartered in Owensboro, Ky., is a full-service music entertainment store that offers an inventory of music ranging from bluegrass to classics.
Steve McCord is manager of the local Disc Jockey-Reel Collections store.
Miget Services Inc., a heating and air-conditioning service, is offering a new waterless geothermal heating and cooling system.
"We're currently installing the first unit in the Cape Girardeau area," said David Carbaugh, general manager of the company at 701 Southern Expressway. "This is an efficient and economical means of heating and cooling."
Bryan Hupperts, sales manager of the company, said geothermal systems take advantage of the fact that just a few feet below the earth's surface, temperature remains constant.
"This system uses a series of copper rods buried in the ground," said Hupperts. "The rods are filled with a small amount of environmentally safe refrigerant gas which carries heat into house in the winter and out of the home in summer."

Austin's of Alto Pass Antiques and Old Wares has expanded.
The antique and collectibles shop, in the old Alto Pass, Ill., grade school, has added another room, providing more than 25 percent more space to its operation.
The company will hold its annual holiday open house this weekend. Open house hours are Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5.
Schnucks Markets Inc. opened a new 62,000-square-foot supercenter in Lenexa, Kan., last week.
"Our existing stores in the Kansas City area have been well-received by the public and we are elated to be opening another location there in time for the holiday shopping season," said Craig Schnucks, chairman and CEO of the company. "Kansas City has been a growth market for us and should continue to be so for some time to come."
The new supermarket is Schnuck's sixth in the metro Kansas City area. Schnucks Markets Inc. operates a chain of 64 supermarkets in four states, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas and Missouri, including Cape Girardeau. The company recently broke ground for a seventh Kansas City area site at Raytown, with an anticipated opening in late spring.
Boatmen's Bancshares Inc., headquartered in St. Louis, has announced definitive agreements to acquire two Texas banks -- First National Bank at Pampa and West Side Bancshares, based in San Angelo.
Boatmen's will exchange about 1.34 million shares of its common stock for all the shares of First Federal, which has $168 million in assets. The West Side Bancshares acquisition will involve the issuance of about 600,000 shares of Boatmen's common stock. West Side owns the Bank of The West in San Angelo, which has assets of about $147 million.
Both banks will become a part of Boatmen's First National Bank of Amarillo, and both acquisitions are expected to close during the first half of 1995, subject to approval by regulators.
Boatmen's, with assets of $28.3 billion, is one of the 30 largest U.S. bank holding companies, operating at more than 400 sites in nine states, including Cape Girardeau County in Missouri.
