Dr. Bill Atchley will be guest of the Southeast Missourian-Concord Printing at the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce's Business After Hours, Tuesday at the Show Me Center on the Southeast Missouri State University campus.
The monthly meeting is designed to unite chamber members in a relaxed atmosphere and encourage members to meet, mingle and make new business contacts. The chamber's membership committee sponsors the event.
The Southeast Missourian and Concord Printing, which include a family of newspapers as well as commercial sheet-fed, web printing and quick printing, are hosts for the event.
The St. Louis Zoo has a new tram.
The two-car, "Special Delivery Zoo Tram," designed to carry individuals, families and small groups to the east end of the zoo and back, has been provided to the zoo by Drury Inns Inc.
Each car seats 18 passengers, or 15 passengers and one wheelchair.
"We know the St. Louis Zoo is a favorite destination for family fun and recreation," said Chuck Drury, president of Drury Inns Inc. "We're proud to be a part of this worthwhile project."
Charles Hoessle, zoo director, said the new trams fill a void. "Some of our visitors have difficulty in getting up the slopes in the antelope areas. We mentioned this to Drury Inns, and the company wanted to help."
The trams will run year-round.
Southeast Missouri Hospital has been granted renewal of accreditation by the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB).
Accreditation follows an intensive on-site inspection by AABB representatives.
Inspection and accreditation procedures area voluntary. "Southeast sought the accreditation because this program assists facilities around the country in achieving excellence by promoting a level of professional and medical expertise that contributed to quality performance," said Tony Williams, Southeast laboratory director.
A one-day, communications skills workshop for women will be held at the Drury Lodge in Cape Girardeau Nov. 13.
The workshop, sponsored by the National Businesswomen's Leadership Association, starts with registration at 8:30 a.m., and end at 4 p.m.
Programs will also be held in Southern Illinois (Mount Vernon, Nov. 15) and West Kentucky (Paducah, Nov. 14).

Venture Store employees recently participated in a "Protect Your Back" program, sponsored by the American Red Cross.
Dr. Stephen Gibson, a chiropractor for the Accident and Back Pain Clinic in Cape Girardeau, conducted the program designed to prevent back injuries.
Being prepared is the key to preventing work-related back injuries, said Shawnna Rhine, health and safety director for the Southeast Missouri Red Cross Chapter. "The four-hour course is designed to teach participants back injury prevention techniques through videos and activity participation.

"General Communications and Basic Telephone Etiquette" will be the topic of a seminar to be held Wednesday at the Drury Lodge Missouri Room, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Robert P. Judson of Judson Educational Technologies Inc. will be speaker at the seminar, sponsored by the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce.
Judson will discuss the importance of first impressions, particularly the ones over the telephone.
Judson was responsible for the development of customer service training to businesses for a five-state area during his 17 years with Southwestern Bell telephone.

The Jackson Chamber of Commerce will hold its general membership meeting at Flickerwood Arena, on Larch Lane north of Jackson Sept. 25.

A Franklin Time Management Seminar, sponsored by the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce, will be held Oct. 18, from 8 to noon, at the Drury Lodge in Cape Girardeau.
The seminar is designed to help participants realize personal values, establish long-range and intermediate goals, and plan daily activities to accomplish important tasks.

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. will build a Midwestern distribution center at Olney, Ill., creating up to 250 jobs within 18 months, and as many as 400 when fully operational.
Construction on the 830,000-square-foot warehouse and food distribution center will get under way next spring, with a completion date of spring 1997.
The new center will serve Wal-Mart's Supercenter grocery stores throughout the Midwest.
The Department of Commerce and Community Affairs will provide a $640,000 Community Development Assistance Program grant to the city, which will be combined with $900,000 from the city to extend water and sewer lines to the new facility. The commerce department will also provide a grant of up to $250,000 from the state's Industrial Training program to assist in training new workers.
A food safety seminar will be held Wednesday at the Holiday Inn in Cape Girardeau from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.
The program, sponsored by the Missouri Restaurant Association and Missouri Department of Health, will focus on ways of preventing food-borne illness
Workshops will be held at six sites in the state. Other sites include Springfield and Hannibal, Tuesday; Cape Girardeau and Lake Ozarks, Wednesday; and Festus and St. Joseph, Thursday.
