KENNETT -- Land that will be the future site of the Sheryl Crow Community Aquatic Center was officially signed over to the Kennett Community Development Corporation on Nov. 9.
Keith Mitchell signed the deed of the former Barton Lumber Co. site over to Matt Shetley, corporation chairman.
Mitchell and his family donated the property at no cost when Crow announced plans to assist in building the pool.
Steve Crow announced at a recent Chamber of Commerce meeting that the city could possibly break ground for the aquatic center within the next six to eight weeks.
"Over the next three weeks, we will be accepting demolition bids," said Crow at the Chamber meeting. "We've already signed a contract with a pool company that is ready to begin construction."
Jan McElwrath, executive director of the Chamber of Commerce, watched as the signing of the deed took place and said she was excited to be a part of this historic process.
"I'm looking forward to the opening of the aquatic center," said McElwrath.
The pool will consist of eight competition lanes, a splash pad, a 20-foot radius kiddie pool, men and women's restrooms and concession area.
Memorial Day 2005 is the scheduled date for the opening of the Sheryl Crow Community Aquatic Center.
