A month has passed since crews began removal of petroleum tanks and equipment from Jasper's, 1008 N. Kingshighway. Within the next few weeks the business will reopen but as a discount tobacco and liquor shop.

Its new name will be Sunset Spirits & Smoke Shoppe.

The Jasper's at 3618 E. Jackson Blvd. is also progressing as planned, according to Keith Boeller, president of Pajco Inc., which operates Rhodes 101 Stops and Jasper's. Boeller said the future Rhodes 101 Stop should still open in late spring as planned.

Meanwhile, two other Rhodes 101s in Cape Girardeau and Jackson are scheduled to break ground by the end of the year. Boeller said the sites at the intersection of Bloomfield and Mount Auburn Road in the Cape West Crossings development and at East Main Street in Jackson are still in the design phase. More information will be available at a later time, Boeller said.

* Delmonico's update: In early January, Delmonico's Steakhouse, 528 W. Main St., filed a building permit to relocate to 2951 Old Orchard Road, an area poised for future growth. I called owner Blake Ackman last week he said that while the permit was filed, a move date is uncertain.

"We're still in the design phase of it," Ackman said. "My dad started this place 25 years ago, and he suggested that since I'm taking it over, we might as well get a fresh start at a new building."

* Family room opens for ICU, CCU patients: Saint Francis Medical Center has opened a room for family members to wait when they have a loved one who are in an intensive care unit or a coronary care unit.

Opened Jan. 4, the room is centrally located on the main floor of the medical center, with easy access to both the ICU and CCU. The room features limited sleeping provisions, restrooms, shower, coffee service, large windows, computers with Internet access and a flat-screen television.

"Family support is an essential component to recovery for our most seriously ill patients," said Jeannie Fadler, vice president of patient care services. "It is important that we encourage this support by offering a warm, comfortable space for families to gather during what is typically a very stressful time."

* FBI moving from courthouse building to Auburn Park Place: The FBI's satellite office in the old federal courthouse building is going to move to another area of Cape Girardeau sometime this year.

According to spokeswoman Rebecca Wu, the FBI's new home will be in Auburn Park Place, 3065 William St. Contrary to rumor, the FBI is not planning to build a secure parking area. Some have thought that could be the case because of a mysterious fencelike structure going up near O'Charley's restaurant. However, Larry Westrich of Drury Southwest, who owns the property, said the secure parking area is being built for multiple tenants, but he declined to elaborate because of tenant confidentiality.

* Postal Planet moving: A month after new ownership took over, a Jackson postal business is planning a March relocation.

Dr. Wayne and Sharon Sarno assumed control of Postal Planet, 2905 E. Jackson Blvd., on Jan. 1. They're planning a move to 1166 Greenway Drive, Suite A4, on March 1.

The new location will include additional services such as secure document shredding and notary services.

Its hours and phone number will remain the same. Postal Planet can be reached at 204-8222 and is open 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
