ELLINGTON, Mo. -- Missouri Highlands Health Care appointed Dr. Tammy J. Lindsay as medical director and family physician. Lindsay, a Van Buren, Missouri, native, recently retired after 21 years of service in the U.S. Air Force. SIKESTON HOSPITAL AWARDED GRANT

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Missouri Delta Medical Center was awarded a Community Facility Grant by the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development. The grant will fund the expansion of the emergency room, according to a USDA news release. The grant officially was announced Sept. 3 at the medical center.

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- A groundbreaking was held Sept. 9 for the new location of Poplar Bluff Children's Dentistry at 4348 Highway PP, according to an announcement from the Greater Poplar Bluff Aera Chamber of Commerce.

SAINT FRANCIS HONORED BY HEART ASSOCIATION

Saint Francis Medical Center received the Mission: Lifeline Bronze Receiving Quality Achievement Award for implementing quality improvement measures outlined by the American Heart Association for the treatment of patients who suffer severe heart attacks, according to a news release from Saint Francis. The Mission: Lifeline goal is to reduce system barriers to prompt treatment for heart attacks, beginning with the 911 call and continuing through hospital treatment.

DAHMM JOINS SERENITY HOSPICE

PARK HILLS, Mo. -- Mary Dahmm joined Serenity HospiceCare as a palliative nurse practitioner. She has management and nursing experience from Mineral Area Regional Medical Center, Jefferson Regional Medical Center, Barnes-Jewish Hospital and St. Louis University Hospital. Her role at Serenity HospiceCare is to provide in-home care for patients suffering from chronic pain and illness.

MISSOURI HIGHLANDS GETS MORE THAN $1M

ELLINGTON, Mo. -- Missouri Highlands Health Care received two funding awards totaling $1,276,788 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the Daily American Republic reported. A $276,788 expanded services award will benefit all Missouri Highlands clinics in Butler, Ripley, Carter, Wayne, Reynolds, Shannon and Iron counties. The funding will allow the clinics to transition from film-based to digital-based X-rays, said Karen White, CEO of Missouri Highlands, based in Ellington. The system also received $1 million in a health infrastructure investment program award. White said Missouri Highlands will add a dental clinic at Pilot Knob to serve Iron County residents, along with additional exam rooms in the medical clinic.

FARMINGTON PHYSICIAN ASSOCIATES OPENS NEW CLINIC

FARMINGTON, Mo. -- Farmington Physician Associates, a primary care practice and Saint Francis medical partner, is seeing patients in its new clinic at 515 Maple Valley Drive in Farmington, according to a news release from Saint Francis Medical Center. The facility houses family practice physicians Dr. Brett M. Dickinson, Dr. William D. Johnson, Dr. Karl D. Killion, Dr. Rustico A. Ramos and Dr. Dennis Sumski, and internal medicine physician Dr. Carla Prince. The clinic provides X-ray and laboratory services, and additional providers when prompt care is required. In addition, several Saint Francis specialty physicians will begin seeing patients at the new clinic, including neurosurgeons Dr. Brandon J. Scott and Dr. Kev Gamadia, neurologist Dr. Andrew Godbey and pain management specialist Dr. Andrew F. Walker.

PHARMACIST JOINS BROADWAY PRESCRIPTION SHOP

Shannon Neal is a new pharmacist at Broadway Prescription Shop in Cape Girardeau. She is a native of Cape Girardeau, graduating from Notre Dame Regional High School and St. Louis College of Pharmacy in St. Louis. She completed a rotation at Broadway Prescription Shop in 2012 while attending pharmacy school. She brings an emphasis on medication therapy management and expertise in diabetes management.

CANCER SPECIALIST JOINS CAPE RADIATION ONCOLOGY

Saint Francis Medical Center added radiation oncologist Dr. Benjamin D. Goodman as a medical partner. He joins fellow radiation oncologists Dr. Tapan Roy and Dr. Emily L. Militzer at Cape Radiation Oncology. Goodman's clinical interests include stereotactic treatments used to treat multiple cancers, including brain, lung, spine and liver.

FRESENIUS OPENS IN POPLAR BLUFF

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- The Greater Poplar Bluff Area Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting recently at Fresenius Medical Care, a new dialysis center at 3050 Tucker Road.

SENIOR INDEPENDENCE MARKS NEW NAME WITH RIBBON CUTTING

PARK HILLS, Mo. -- Members of Senior Independence Hospice of Mid-America, the Park Hills-Leadington Chamber of Commerce and the Farmington Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting Sept. 29 to commemorate Senior Independence Hospice of Mid-America's name change from Presbyterian Hospice of Mid-America, the Park Hills Daily Journal reported. The name change, which took effect Aug. 17, recognizes a partnership between PHMA and Senior Independence of Columbus, Ohio.
