__SCHRUMPF IS MHA DISTRICT PRESIDENT__

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Jason Schrumpf, president of Missouri Delta Medical Center, was elected to a one-year term as president of the Missouri Hospital Association's Southeast District Council. One of six district council presidents, he will direct input from council members on national, state and regional health care policies to the MHA Board of Trustees. District council presidents also select recipients of MHA's Excellence in Governance awards.

__CURRY JOINS MISSOURI DELTA__

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Dr. Sarah Curry, a family medicine physician, joined family nurse practitioner Amber Jones at Missouri Delta Primary Care. Their office is inside the Barton-Jolly Physician Services Building on North Main Street in Sikeston.

__RURAL HEALTH CENTER OPENS IN SIKESTON__

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Sikeston Rural Health Care opened at 1226 Linn St. Terry Cole and Charlotte DeWitt own the facility, which provides primary health care for all ages, including those with acute illnesses and chronic conditions. DeWitt is a nurse practitioner.

__STAHLY PASSES SLEEP MEDICINE EXAM__

Dr. Randall L. Stahly passed the certification examination in sleep medicine, which he is adding as a subspecialty to his practice of neurology. Stahly has been a member of the SoutheastHEALTH medical staff since 1987.

__CHERRY RECEIVES STAR SERVICE AWARD__

PARK HILLS, Mo. -- Melissa Cherry received the Star Service Employee Award for January at Parkland Health Center. Cherry, a registered nurse, has worked at Parkland for two years.

__HOME CARE SERVICES GETS GOLD SEAL__

Southeast Hospital and Southeast Home Care Services (home health, hospice) earned The Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval for accreditation by demonstrating compliance with The Joint Commission's national standards for health care quality and safety. The accreditation process occurs every three years. Six surveyors visited Southeast in January for an unannounced four-day, on-site survey. They evaluated Southeast for compliance with standards addressing important processes and functions relating to the care of patients and leadership of the hospital.

__AESTHETICIANS JOIN MISSOURI PLASTIC AND HAND SURGERY__

Dr. Gregory A. Tobin with Missouri Plastic and Hand Surgery in Cape Girardeau welcomed two licensed aestheticians to his staff: Madra Meystedt Jones and Tennie Rust. This expansion brings nonsurgical anti-aging and acne skin care solutions for all ages.

__SAINT FRANCIS ADDS ENT GROUP__

Saint Francis Medical Center added Cape ENT Group, formerly SEMO Otolaryngology, as a new medical partner. The established practice is led by ear, nose and throat experts Dr. Curtis Coonce and Dr. Adam S. Morgan, along with audiologist Carol Thiele. The office is at 150 S. Mount Auburn Road in Cape Girardeau.

__GIBBS JOINS WOUND CENTER__

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- Devona Gibbs joined the Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Center at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center. Gibbs, a board certified family nurse practitioner and a certified wound ostomy continence nurse, will provide both outpatient and inpatient services at the center.

__NAGY JOINS SLEEP CENTER__

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- Dr. Stephen Nagy is the new medical director at Southern Missouri Sleep Center. He is a board certified sleep medicine physician.

__LIGONS JOINS MISSOURI SOUTHERN__

DEXTER, Mo. -- Katelyn Ligons joined Missouri Southern Healthcare as a physical therapy assistant. She previously worked for RehabCare in Poplar Bluff and Doniphan, Mo.

__PARKLAND ADDS CHIEF NURSE EXECUTIVE__

FARMINGTON, Mo. -- Barbi Berrong is the new chief nurse executive at Parkland Health Center, reported the Farmington Press. Berrong, a registered nurse, replaces Kathy Hight, who retired at the end of 2011. Berrong worked in critical care and post-anesthesia care units at hospitals in Indiana and Tennessee before joining BJC HealthCare in 1996. In her new role, she is responsible for direct patient care services in all departments of the hospital and representing the hospital within the BJC system.

__SOUTHEAST GETS CARDIOLOGY AWARD__

Southeast Hospital received the American College of Cardiology Foundation's 2011 NCDR ACTION Registry -- GWTG Gold Performance Achievement Award for exceptional cardiovascular care. Southeast is one of only 167 hospitals nationwide to earn the award. The award recognizes Southeast's commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of care for heart attack patients, and signifies that the hospital has reached an aggressive goal of treating these patients to standard levels of care as outlined by the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association clinical guidelines and recommendations. To receive the Gold Performance Achievement Award, Southeast consistently followed the treatment guidelines in ACTION Registry -- GWTG for eight consecutive quarters and met a performance standard of 85 percent for specific performance measures.

__HENDERSON JOINS MISSOURI DELTA MEDICAL CENTER__

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Dr. Mark Henderson joined Missouri Delta Medical Center as a general/vascular surgeon. He has been practicing general and vascular surgery for the past 14 years in McKinney and Allen, Texas.

__LUMSDEN JOINS MID AMERICA__

Taylor Lumsden joined Mid America Rehab at its Cape Girardeau outpatient center. His work experience includes treating patients in nursing homes, acute care, skilled rehab, home health and industrial medicine.

__THREE JOIN BLOOMFIELD CLINIC__

BLOOMFIELD, Mo. -- Dr. Bijan Bastaninejad, Dr. Peter Somers and Sherry Limbaugh joined Bloomfield Medical Clinic. Somers specializes in family medicine; Bastaninejad is a pediatrician; and Limbaugh is a family nurse practitioner specializing in family medicine.

__HOFFMAN NAMED NURSE EDUCATOR__

FARMINGTON, Mo. -- Regena Hoffman was named nurse educator at Mineral Area Regional Medical Center. She started working at Mineral Area Regional in 2006 as an emergency room staff nurse. She has been a clinical instructor for Mineral Area College since 2007 and has also worked at the Farmington Mental Health Center and Washington County Hospital.

__VISION SOURCE EYECARE OPENS__

ADVANCE, Mo. -- Vision Source Advance is now open at 33501 Highway 25 in Advance. It is operated by Dr. Jennifer K. Howard and Dr. Kathryn A. Mayberry, who also operate Dexter Family Eyecare in Dexter, Mo.

__PBRMC NAMES NEW CEO__

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- Charles Stewart became Health Management Associates' Missouri Market CEO on Feb. 1, the Daily American Republic reported. His position includes being the new CEO at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center and being responsible for HMA's facility in Kennett, Mo., Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center. HMA, based in Naples, Fla., owns the Poplar Bluff hospital.

__DEHAVEN NAMED CHIEF QUALITY OFFICER AT MEDICAL CENTER__

FARMINGTON, Mo. -- Beth DeHaven was named chief quality officer at Mineral Area Regional Medical Center. She previously worked in various staff and management positions at Arcadia Valley Hospital. After it closed, she worked at Madison Medical Center in Fredericktown, Mo., then joined Mineral Area as a staff nurse in the emergency department. She was recently accepted into the family nurse practitioner program at Cox College of Nursing in Springfield, Mo., and is pursuing her FNP.

__PRESBYTERIAN MANOR MAKES BEST LIST__

FARMINGTON, Mo. -- Farmington Presbyterian Manor is on the U.S. News and World Report Best Nursing Homes 2012 list, reported the Park Hills Daily Journal. The retirement community received the highest score of a five-star rating to make the list, available at www.usnews.com/nursinghomes. The list uses information from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the government agency that sets and enforces standards for nursing homes. CMS assigns one to five stars to each community for how well it performs in health inspections, nurse staffing and level of quality care.

__SOUTHEAST RANKS AMONG NATION'S BEST__

Southeast Hospital ranks among the nation's Best Regional Hospitals for 2011 to 2012, according to U.S. News & World Report. Southeast is the only hospital in Southeast Missouri and one of only nine in the state to receive this national recognition. The magazine has singled out 247 nonmetropolitan hospitals for their high level of medical care. Best Regional Hospitals are high performers in at least one medical specialty; Southeast was recognized for urology care.

__VESOM, HALL, JOIN TWIN RIVERS__

KENNETT, Mo. -- According to Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center, Dr. Pitt Vesom began seeing patients March 1 at Kennett Cardiology Associates. He is board certified in cardiovascular disease and internal medicine and has been practicing for 37 years. Dr. John Hall, who is board certified by the American Board of Urology, also joined the hospital. He will begin seeing patients March 15 at Kennett Urology Associates.

__TWIN RIVERS OPENS NEW OUTPATIENT ENTRANCE__

KENNETT, Mo. -- Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center held a ribbon cutting Feb. 29 for its new outpatient entrance, according to the Daily Dunklin Democrat. The new drive-thru entrance, located at the back of the hospital, was designed to allow patient drop-off and pickup before and after receiving hospital services. Inside, the hospital has added another restroom, registration desk and more offices. Other renovation projects currently underway include fresh wall treatments, modern floors and furniture.
