While gas prices are on the decline in many parts of the country, the same cannot be said of Southeast Missouri.
County averages for regular unleaded gasoline were higher than last week in Cape Girardeau and Perry Counties, as well as in Jackson, Perryville and Scott City, and saw no change in Scott County. Only in Cape Girardeau proper did the average fall.
It’s a similar trend on a national scale. As Missouri’s average unleaded price for a gallon of gasoline rose 4 cents to $3.22, the national average dipped 3 cents to $3.50 a gallon.
Other states saw their averages plummet. Mississippi, the longtime title holder for lowest gasoline on average, saw sub-$3 levels at $2.99 a gallon. California, with the top spot at $4.68 a gallon, also saw its averages fall. Missouri is a national outlier in this regard.
Diesel prices fell to averages of $3.83 a gallon nationally and $3.47 a gallon in Missouri, both cheaper than last week.
