Four area cities, Southeast Missouri State University and local homebuilders have joined forces to sponsor two building code seminars. The seminars will be held in Cape Girardeau at the Osage Community Centre in January and February.
Enrollment will not be limited to city building inspectors or university building project managers, but will be available to contractors, design professionals and the public. Advanced registration is required.
The cities of Cape Girardeau, Jackson, Sikeston and Perryville and the university are co-sponsoring the seminars. The Southeast Homebuilders Association is also assisting with recruiting residential contractors and providing coffee, soft drinks and snacks.
The first seminar was Jan. 14 and focused on the International Residential Code. Cape Girardeau and Sikeston currently use the International Codes, while Jackson and Perryville use earlier versions of the BOCA codes, which are the basis of the newer International Codes. The second seminar will be on Feb. 10 and 11 and based on the International Building Code. This seminar will be geared more for commercial contractors, architects, engineers and inspectors.
The registration fee for the two-day seminar is $100.
The seminars are taught by the International Code Council and the instructor for both seminars will be Bill Stewart with Stewart Schaberg Architect in St. Louis. Stewart has taught ICC and BOCA classes for years.
