Cape Girardeau, the largest city between St. Louis, Mo., and Memphis, Tenn, entertained visitors in 2010 from all 50 states as well as from several Canadian provinces and foreign countries. Visitors come for a variety of reasons: group tours, conferences, amateur sporting events, educational seminars, business travel, family vacations and more.

Over the course of the last eight years, Cape Girardeau has enjoyed an influx of new attractions, such as the Red House Interpretive Center, the Missouri Department of Conservation's Nature Center, the "Mississippi River Tales" mural, the "Missouri Wall of Famea" renovation, Red Star Access, a complete renovation of Fort D Historic Site, extension of the Riverfront Trail, extension of the LaCroix Trail, the River Campus of Southeast Missouri State University, the Old Bridge Overlook, the Storytelling Festival, the Discovery Playhouse, Cape Splash Family Aquatic Center, Lazy L Safari Park, Jones Heritage Farms and more. Also, Cape Girardeau will soon be able to meet the desires of those seeking a gaming experience in the not too distant future, with the Isle of Capri coming in late 2012 or early 2013.

Given all that has taken place and continues to take place in the area of Destination Development, Cape Girardeau is well positioned in the future to see further increases in visitor spending by lengthening the time that guests spend in the community in order to experience all of the attractions and events that Cape Girardeau now has to offer.

Here you can hike any number of beautiful trails, enjoy a family-friendly, multigenerational, storytelling festival, stroll across a covered bridge, shop for that one-of-a-kind vintage heirloom in a veritable treasure trove of antique stores, enjoy a world class theater production, view murals that stretch the length of the entire historic downtown area, or step back in time at any number of historic attractions.
