Jimmy Stone, Southeast Missourian newspaper carrier, has been named 1999 Missouri Adult Newspaper Carrier of the Year by the Missouri Circulation Managers Association.
Mark Kneer, director of circulation and marketing at the Southeast Missourian and Rob Walz, assistant circulation manager at the Missourian, accepted the award for Stone, who has been a newspaper carrier for 19 years.
Stone is the second Missourian carrier to receive state carrier honors in the past four years. Peggy Rainwater received Missouri Carrier of the Year honors in 1996.
Stone carries more than 50 papers on his Cape Girardeau route. He was elected as Cape Girardeau carrier of the year.
Prerequisites for carrier honors include:
-- Customer home delivery complaints below one complaint per 1,000 papers delivered.
-- On-time delivery to subscribers.
-- Use of plastic bags to cover the papers when weather conditions require it.
Stone met all the requirements. He has had only five complaints over the past three years, and that translates into more than 50,000 papers delivered.
