Donald E. Qualls has retired from Central Illinois Public Service Co. after 29 years service.
Qualls, a certified welder repairman at Grand Tower, Ill., power station, started his career at CIPS in 1967 as an emergency utility man at the Grand Tower station. He has served there in various positions, including auxiliary operator, boiler operator, maintenance man and repairman before assuming his latest position in 1994.
A native of Gorham, Ill., he is a graduate of Grand Tower High School. He completed welding courses at Cape Girardeau Vo-Tech School. Qualls is a member of the Bethel Assembly of God Church in Cape Girardeau.
Sam Peterman, manager of floor covering at Contractors Supply, Highway 74 West, accepted the Retailer of the Year award for the Midwest Region, presented by L.O. Brinkman, distributor of floor coverings -- carpet, vinyl, tile, ceramic and wood -- during Brinkman's annual convention in Dallas.
L.O. Brinkman provides flooring to more than 5,000 dealers. More than 2,000 dealers attended the conference.
Danny Borgfield has been named Employee of the Year at the Lutheran Home.
Borgfield, who joined the Lutheran Home two years ago, works in the physical therapy department as a restorative aide.
Four additional Lutheran Home workers have been honored for service -- Betty Hency, certified nurse's aide, with 20 years service; Martha Kinder, certified medical technician, and Beverly Price, head of restorative therapy, each with 15 years service; and licensed practical nurse Rose Pobst, with 10 years service.
David L. Hahs of Cape Girardeau and Edward P. Gargas of Poplar Bluff were recently honored by Northwestern Mutual Life for sales production during 1995.
Hahs was recognized as the agency sales leader for the year, with top production in life, volume, premium and new clients. He has been a member of the Cape Girardeau agency since 1972 and is a life member of the Million Dollar Round Table.
Gargas received the Bull O' the Woods award for highest percentage increase in sales for the last six months of 1995. He has been a Northwestern agent since 1991 and recently opened an office at Poplar Bluff.
Northwestern Mutual is the nation's second-largest life insurance company measured by insurance in force. The local agency was founded in 1948.
Kelley Callow of Jackson has been named Stylist of the Year for the second straight year at Special Effects Styling Salon, 2532 William. Kim Talley, owner of the salon, announced Callow's honor during the salon's annual dinner and meeting.
Tracey Glenn of Cape Girardeau was winner of a weekend trip to the Broadwater Resort at Biloxi, Miss. The grand prize of a Christmas holiday promotion was presented by Southeast Discount Golf & Sporting Goods, 1900 N. Kingshighway.
Glenn and her husband, Jeff, will have an opportunity to play two 18-hole golf courses at the resort.
Greg Bradley, sales manager of Bradley Distributing Co. in Kennett, has been elected vice chairman-chairman elect of the Missouri Beer Wholesalers Association. Jim Brooks, vice president of sales of United Beverage Co., Kansas City, is president, and John Rock, Midland Bottling Co., St. Joseph, is treasurer.
Kenneth E. O'Neal has joined the Sikeston law firm of Burns and Taylor.
O'Neal, of Kennett, attended School of the Ozarks two years and graduated from Southeast Missouri State University with a degree in business administration. He graduated from the University of Missouri School of Law in 1995 and was admitted to the Missouri Bar in October.
Members of the firm are Rice P. Burns Jr. and Stephen L. Taylor.
Fred Hoelscher, owner of Bellevue Bed and Breakfast, 312 Bellevue, is the new president of the Bed & Breakfast Inns of Missouri.
Hoelscher was elected head of the group during its annual membership conference.
The group, with more than 60 members, was founded eight years ago to provide guidelines and business recommendations to the industry.
Martin D. Wilson has been named president and chief operating officer of D&K Wholesale Drug Inc. headquartered in St. Louis.
Wilson, formerly executive vice president of finance and administration, joined D&K as controller in 1988, and has served at both the Cairo, Ill. and Lexington, Ky., divisions of the company. He recently relocated to the corporate office in St. Louis.
Wilson is a certified public accountant and worked with KPMG Peat Marwick in St. Louis four years before joining D&K.
D&K is a full-service, regional, wholesale-drug distributor serving customers from facilities in Cairo, Lexington, and Minneapolis, Minn.
Kevin G. Sutterer, formerly of Perryville, a professional engineer and assistant professor of civil engineering at the University of Kentucky, has been named Young Engineer of the Year by the Kentucky Society of Professional Engineers.
Sutterer, of Lexington, Ky., received his undergraduate degree in civil engineering at the University of Missouri-Rolla. He received a master's degree in civil engineering from Purdue, and a doctorate degree from Georgia Institute of Technology.
He joined the University of Kentucky in 1993.
The Cape Girardeau law firm of Limbaugh, Russell, Payne and Howard has announced that John D. Harding and Douglas Taft Sloan are now shareholders in the firm.
The firm also announced that Robyn E. Haring has joined the firm as an associate.
