Christy Yount of Cape Girardeau has received the 1997 Dougie Manthey Nurse of the Year Award at St. Francis Medical Center.
The recognition is presented annually to a nurse nominated by peers, co-workers and leaders. Yount was selected for excellence in professional nursing practice and exemplifying the "Spirit of St. Francis Nurses."
Yount is a graduate of Puxico High and the Cape Girardeau Vo-Tech School of Practical Nursing. In 1994, she received her nursing diploma from Southeast Missouri Hospital School of Nursing.
She previously worked as a school nurse and home health nurse.
Liz Leible, director of materials management at Southeast Missouri Hospital, has been elected secretary of the board of directors for the Missouri Association of Hospital Purchasing and Materials Management.
Leible, a member of the MAHPMM board of directors for two years, was elected to her new post at the group's spring seminar earlier this month.
Leible, who has an associate degree in data processing from Murray State University, joined Southeast Hospital in 1979 and has been materials management director since 1981.
Thomas M. Meyer of Thomas L. Meyer Realtors has attended the National Association of Realtors National Directors meeting in Washington.
Meyer, a past Missouri Association of Realtors president and currently a national director, represented Missouri at the national meeting.
Meyer is president of Thomas L. Meyer Realty Co., and Ridgeway Co. at Perryville.
Cathy Metzger will become manager of Cat's Eye Metal Finishing of Fruitland next month.
Metzger owns the company she founded in February 1996. Her husband, Doug Metzger, has been managing the business and will remain employed in a technical capacity while continuing his education in related fields.
Cat's Eye Metal provides powder castings for the music service industry. Other services include steam cleaning, glass beading, and wet and dry sandblasting.
Jon M. Kasten of Cape Girardeau is the Southeast Missouri area AT&T/Lucent Tech telephone equipment representative.
He has been authorized by Southwestern Bell to handle business telephone services, including Caller ID, call forwarding and 800 services.
Laura Faye Thomas of Cape Girardeau is recipient of the 1997 M. Luther Hahs Award as the Life Underwriter of the Year. The award recognizes outstanding contribution to the life and health insurance industry and the community.
Thomas, who works with Bankers Life and Casualty, received the award recently from Mike Parker of Sikeston, state president for the Missouri Association of Life Underwriters.
John E. Carpenter, Cape Girardeau County coroner, has been awarded status as a Life Fellow of the American College of Forensic Examiners.
Fellow is the highest level of membership in the ACFE, which recognizes experience and education of individuals engaged in forensic examinations covering multi-disciplinary training in medical, scientific and investigative sciences.
ACFE is headquartered at Springfield, Mo.
Birdie Rader, sales associate with Century 21 Key Realty, has been inducted into the Century 21 International Hall of Fame.
Rader and Barbara Travers, broker-owner of Key Realty, recently attended the four-day Century 21 International Convention, at New Orleans.
Rader was one of eight sales associated to receive the Century 21 Hall of Fame honors.
Rader became a realtor as a second career, following many years as a college professor.
She has consistently been named as a top producer as a Century 21 sales associate and nine times has received the Centurion for outstanding sales performance.
Corliss McMallister of Cape Girardeau and Kristie Joyner of Kennett were winners of a recent Southwestern Bell Wireless promotion.
The winners each received a trip to Hot Springs, Ark., in the company's "Welcome to Arkansas" contest.
Southwestern Bell Wireless has added about 75 percent of the state of Arkansas to its coverage area.
Shirlee Michelsen of the Visiting Nurse Association of Southeast Missouri has received the 1997 Administrative Staff Award presented by the Missouri Alliance for Home Care for leadership.
Michelsen, office manager of the VNA for 12 years, received her award during the Alliance's annual award banquet at Tan-Tar-A Resort.
During the past year, Michelsen assisted in developing an orientation guide for new clerical and administrative management staff and created more efficient office systems for VNA.
Earlier, Michelson had been named VNA Employee of the Year for 1996.
Brian Bainter of Hannibal was winner of a new Dodge Club Cab Sport Truck in the recent sweepstakes sponsored by the St. Louis Outstate Dodge Dealers' Advertising Association.
Bainter was one of more than 20,000 entries from 101 Dodge dealerships in the zone, including Auffenberg Chrysler-Plymouth-Dodge in Cape Girardeau.
Bainter picked up his new, $23,415, V8 truck at Murphy Motor in Hannibal.
