A Rhodes 101 Stop Convenience Store in Cape Girardeau has been named the "Best in the Region" for food service.
The Rhodes facility at 2109 William is the regional winner of the Orion Food Systems Inc. Mystery Shopper Program.
The store was judged best among entries, on food quality, store appearance, merchandising execution, cleanliness and staff appearance, among other criteria.
Mystery shoppers visited all stores in the contest.
Deanna Max, the store's food service manager, received a check for $1,000 from Orion representatives.
Another Rhodes 101 Stop, at 1036 N. Sprigg, was regional and national winner in the program in 1997.
Rhodes 101 Convenience Stores have 15 stores in Southeast Missouri. Many of the Rhodes operations serve Hot Stuff Pizza and Smash Hit Subs, part of the Orion Food System, headquartered in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Tim Schwent, a certified public accountant with Schott & Van de Ven, Certified Public Accountants, has completed an educational class, "No Holds Barred Tax Planning for Individuals," held at Nashville, Tenn.
Schwent has been a certified public account since 1972 and specializes in tax planning and advisory services for closely held businesses.
Cheryl Morris, staff accountant with Schott & Van de Ven, recently attended the "1040 Tax Clinic," sponsored by the Missouri Society of CPAs.
The clinic focused on maximizing deductions, exemptions and credits for individuals.
Morris is a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University.
Dr. Randall Stahly of Neurological Consultants of Cape Girardeau, 5 Doctors Park in Cape Girardeau, recently attended a program at Harvard Medical School in Cambridge, Mass.
Stahly was one of 60 physicians nationwide selected to participate in the program, entitled "Electromyography and Clinical Neurophysiology (EMG/NCS)."
Stahly is a board certified neurologist and president of the medical staff at Southeast Missouri Hospital.
Audrey Holifield has received the designation GRI by the Missouri Association of Realtors.
Holifield received the Graduate, Realtors Institute (GRI) honor after completed 90 hours of specific education outlined by the National Association of Realtors.
The course provides training in real estate practice, providing increased professionalism and enhanced business success.
Holifield is associated with Century 21 Dutch Realty in Jackson.
Carla Glaus, a registered nurse and patient educator for Southeast Missouri Hospital, recently completed requirements for Certified Diabetes Educator status.
The certification was awarded by the National Certification Board for Diabetes Educators.
Glaus, who received both her associate's and bachelor's degrees in nursing from Southeast Missouri State University, has been employed at Southeast Hospital for 16 years.
She serves on the board of the Southeast Chapter of the American Diabetes Association. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau nursing honor society.,
Jeff Wilkerson, formerly of Cape Girardeau, has received an award of excellence from Advent Enterprises Inc.
The Division of Vocational Rehabilitation referred Wilkerson to Advent for supported employment services.
Wilkerson, who is employed at Ozark Muffler, was honored as the Cape Girardeau District winner, for his personal and vocational accomplishments.
Advent, an employment center headquartered at Columbia, with centers at Jefferson City and Moberly, provides career counseling, skills training and job placement assistance.
Richard Lee Hetzel, chief of police of the Cape Girardeau Police Department, and Beverly Ann Long, area director of the Missouri Division of Family Services, recently graduated from Leadership Missouri, a seven-month leadership enhancement program sponsored by the Missouri Chamber of Commerce, for business, government and civic leaders.
Leadership Missouri is designed to help people better understand the operations of Missouri business and government, as well as the concerns and goals of the state's elected and appointed officials. Gov. Mel Carnahan is honorary chairman of the programs,
Program sessions are held each month for seven months, with each session held in a different Missouri city.
Hetzel and Greg Deimund are co-chairmen of the Leadership Cape Girardeau program, sponsored by the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce.
Diana Palmer of Schnucks Floral at Schnucks Market in Cape Girardeau has been certified as a "Master Designer" by the FTD Association.
To qualify for certification, Palmer had to complete requirements in flower identification, design style identification, and flower care and handling.
She also had to complete specific floral arrangements within specified time frames.
The FTD Association is composed of more than 24,000 retail florists in the United States and Canada.
Rodger Rice was recently recognized for 30 years of service with Schnucks Markets.
Rice started with Schnucks in September 1968. He worked at four different St. Louis Schnucks stores before moving to Cape Girardeau more than 20 years ago, in 1976, for the opening of the local store.
