David K. Papke has joined Mercantile Bank of Cape Girardeau.
Papke will serve as senior vice president and senior lender for Mercantile here.
Lowell Peterson, community bank president at Cape Girardeau, announced Papke's appointment recently.
Papke has been with Mercantile Bank of St. Louis N.A., since 1992, acting as vice president in commercial real estate.
Prior to joining Mercantile Bank, Papke worked as a controller with the Paragon Group, and was involved in real estate development for The Lockwood Group, the Love Co. and New Legends Associates Inc.
Papke, a licensed real-estate broker and commercial lines insurance broker, is a graduate of the University of Missouri, with an accounting degree.
Drs. Marybeth Kapp and Shawn Parker of Eye Care Specialists L.L.C., Cape Girardeau, served as instructors at the national meeting of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Association of Certified Orthoptists, held recently at New Orleans.
Kapp, a fellowship-trained pediatric and adult eye muscle ophthalmologist, taught an instructional course on the diagnosis and treatment of abnormal head positions and discussed torticollis cases caused by eye muscle problems.
Parker, a fellowship-trained corneal ophthalmologist, taught a class on the use of microkeratomes, instruments used to make the corneal flap during laser surgery for the correction of nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism.
Dr. Max Stanley Chartrand will visit with area residents who suffer from hearing loss and tinnitus problems during an appearance in Cape Girardeau this week.
Chartrand, who is deaf, uses a multichannel cochlear implant digital hearing aid and various assisting devices, and is a noted health researcher, author and educator.

Chartrand, vice president of marketing and professional education at AmericanEar Laboratories Inc., Las Vegas, has published more than a dozen textbooks and training manuals for professionals and is author for more than 500 published articles.
David R. Anderson, of Madison, Wis., will become president and chief operation officer of American Family Mutual Insurance Co. Feb. 1.
American Family, founded in 1927, employs 6,800 people and has more than 3,800 independent contractor agents who sell auto, home, business, health and life insurance products, including at least eight contractors in the Cape Girardeau, Jackson and Scott City areas.
Anderson, who has been with American Family since 1975 as budget director, later served as financial planning director and accounting director. He has a bachelor's degree in finance and marketing from the University of Wisconsin and a master's in business administration in finance from the business school.
He will succeed chief executive officer Dale F. Mathwich, who will retire Jan. 31.
