Walter J. Ford, a Cape Girardeau funeral director, has been elected to the board of National Selection Morticians, International Association of Preeminent Independent Funeral Directors.

Ford & Sons Funeral Home and Memorial Park Cemetery are privately owned and operated by Walter J. and Iris Ford; Cliff and Michele Ford; and Kevin and Cindy Ford.

Ford & Sons is a full-service funeral firm, offering many options -- traditional, limited services, cremation, pre-planning and pre-arrangement plans, with trust or insurance plans.

Monument sales, mausoleum and niches, and ground burial options are also a part of the services offered. In addition, the funeral home offers a grief support group.

Ford & Sons area at 118 S. Sprigg St., and 1001 N. Mount Auburn Road in Cake Girardeau and at Benton, Mo., Chapel.

Kay Tropf of Chaffee has joined Studio Designs, 229 Broadview, in Cape Girardeau as a hair stylist.

She will be offering hair cuts, perms, color and highlights and nail manicures.

Tropf, a graduate of a Sikeston beauty school, previously worked with Kutters.

Brad Haertling and Ross Austin, both of Jackson, have joined Re/Max Achievers, 1471 N. Kingshighway, in Cape Girardeau.

Haertling has been active as a broker in residential lot sales and commercial real estate. He is a member of the National Board of Realtors, Missouri Association of Realtors and the Cape Girardeau County Board of Realtors.

Austin has more than 17 years of corporate sales experience. He has worked with many family-owned businesses and national corporations, with experience in creative finance and real estate investment dealings through Austin Acquisitions.

Re/Max Achievers is part of Re/Max International based in Denver, Colo., which has offices throughout the world.

Amos Tucker and Candy Tucker of Olive Branch were winners of a Mark McGwire autographed baseball bat during a special promotion and drawing at Glik's at West Park Mall.

Jim Glik, owner, presented the bat to the Tuckers.

McGwire, a St. Louis baseball slugger hit a record 70 home runs during the 1998 season, breaking home run records of Babe Ruth (60) and Roger Maris (61) along the way.

Southern Illinois Electric Cooperative linemen, Robin Ramage of Metropolis and Larry Lingle of Dongola, recently attended a "hot line" school at Lincoln Land College in Springfield.

The session focused on underground power line construction, trouble shooting and safety. The seminar was part of a monthlong training program hosted by the Association of Illinois Electric Cooperatives, Springfield.

Jeremy Mabrey of Scott City has joined Rose City Motors Co., 566 S. Kingshighway, in Cape Girardeau as salesman.

Mabrey has a year's experience in auto sales.

U.S. Sen. Christopher "Kit" Bond, R-Mo., and Rep. Jo Ann Emerson, R-Cape Girardeau, have each received the American Farm Bureau Federation "Friend of Farm Bureau" awards.

The awards area based on the voting records of legislators relating to AFBF priority issue. Only those nominees receiving approval from the AFBF Board receive the award, said Charles Kruse, president of the Missouri Farm Bureau Federation.

Bond carried a 100 percent voting record on AFBF issues of importance. Emerson had a 94 percent voting record on AFBF issues.

Mike Radake, a certified public accountant with Schott & Van de Ven Certified Public Accountants, recently completed two classes -- "Auditing Benefit Plans" and "Audits of Employee Benefits Plans."

Radake, who has been a CPA since 1994, specializes in helping businesses with planning, designing and administration of employee benefit plans.

Schott & Van de Ven is a full-service public accounting firm at 1020 N. Kingshighway, Suite D, in Cape Girardeau.

Jeff Volkderding, vice president and general manager of the Best Western Colonial Inn at Perryville, has been elected as president of the Missouri Hotel & Motel Association board of directors.

The motel and hotel association, headquartered in Jefferson City, promotes the interests of the Missouri lodging industry at local, state and national levels.

A paper by Drs. Walt Schroeder and Bill Stahr was published in the October issue of "The Laryngoscope."

"Malignant Neoplastic Disease of the Parotid Lymph Nodes" is an article dealing with various malignancies that involved the parotid gland.

Schroeder and Stahr are on staff at St. Francis Medical Center.
