The Missouri Preservation Conference is coming to Cape Girardeau on Oct. 21-23 at Southeast Missouri State University, and a trade show featuring architects and consultants, building supply manufacturers and dealers will be part of the lineup.
More than 30 educational sessions, tours and networking events will be available to anyone who attends.
Some of the sessions will address historic preservation tax credits, technological advances in historic preservation, community revitalization and more. A separate, ticketed event is the Legacy Awards, which recognize outstanding achievements in historic preservation.
The majority of the conference will be held on the fourth floor of Southeast's University Center at Henderson and Normal avenues.
To register, visit preservemo.org or call (660) 882-5946. Tickets to the Legacy Awards dinner are $30 for non-conference attendees and are available at Old Town Cape, 418 Broadway or (573) 334-8085, and the Kellerman Foundation, (573) 587-3295.
The Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce is accepting nominations for its board of directors until Oct. 14.
Brian Gerau, the chamber's director, said one board seat is vacant, and three others are up for re-election by the general chamber membership.
Board members should be involved in the community and have experience serving on a governing body or working with not-for-profit organizations.
"Being on other boards is always a plus ...," Gerau said. "The more experience, the better."
Chamber board members serve three-year terms with a limit of nine years total. Those who are re-elected are considered to be in good standing internally and in the greater community. Board members vote on municipal issues such as bonds and taxes and also take political stances.
If you would like a nomination form, email director@jacksonmochamber.org.
