Steve Dirnberger and Joey McLane were recently chosen to serve on boards that govern the Saint Francis Healthcare System.

Dirnberger, an accountant and auditor at Stanley, Dirnberger, Hopper & Associates in Cape Girardeau, was appointed to the system's board of directors after previously serving on the system's health development board, according to a news release from Saint Francis.

Members of the board for the Catholic health care system must be approved by the bishop of the Diocese of Springfield-Cape Girardeau.

Dirnberger's Catholic involvement includes being a founding member of the Notre Dame Education Foundation, a member of the local Knights of Columbus Council and parishioner of St. Mary Cathedral. He also is a member of the Missouri Society of Certified Public Accountants.

McLane, president of First Midwest Bank, is a longtime resident of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, and was appointed to the Saint Francis Health Development Board, which is the system's "for-profit arm and supports the charitable purposes and activities of the Medical Center by undertaking activities that increase the scope and character of health care services that are delivered," according to the release.

McLane, according to the release, will represent the system's expanding services in the Poplar Bluff region. He served on the board for Black River Medical Center and as an adviser for Poplar Bluff Medical Partners, according to the release.

Other religious and community involvement for McLane includes memberships for the Poplar Bluff's United Gospel Rescue Mission, Senate Bill 40 Board, Poplar Bluff Building Corp. and Highway 67 Corp. Board, according to the release.

  • A new Italian restaurant, Mario and Angela's Italian Cucina, will open soon at 1740 Broadway in Cape Girardeau, according to signs posted at the property. The building formerly housed Taqueria Jalisco, a Mexican restaurant that closed last year.
  • Teen clothing store Aeropostale inside Cape Girardeau's West Park Mall will close before Feb. 1, store manager Shari Dirnberger said last week. The store opened in the mall in 2002. The nationwide chain company reported falling sales last year along with plans to close some stores.
  • Construction work on Southeast Missouri State University's Creative Labs and Industries Incubator was ongoing last week. Contractors were improving the facade of the building in the 600 block of Broadway in Cape Girardeau for the new project, which university staff have said will help students practice taking ideas and developing them into products and services. The incubator is expected to be ready for use by the fall semester.
  • White Castle reopened Dec. 28 in a new building at 102 Siemers Drive in Cape Girardeau. The building that housed the fast-food restaurant was damaged in a May fire and torn down. Construction on the new building began in August.
  • American HomePatient in Perryville, Missouri, is planning a ribbon-cutting event. The home health-care service and product company is opening an office at 817 N. Kingshighway in Perryville and will hold a ceremony at 10 a.m. Jan. 16.
