Business Notebook: Community Counseling Center achieves 3-year accreditation

The Community Counseling Center achieved the highest level three-year accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Services International, according to a news release. This is the fourth consecutive three-year accreditation the counseling center has been awarded.

The center underwent a three day, on-site, peer-review process, the result of which verified the CCC's programs and services are "of the highest quality, measurable and accountable," the release said.

The Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities International, founded in 1966, establishes consumer-focused standards to help organizations measure and improve the quality of their programs and services.

* Mary Jane Burgers & Brew now is open at 102 N. Jackson St. in Perryville, Mo. The restaurant features 20 beers on tap, a beer club for adults, study hall for students and, of course, burgers.

* A bar called The Hi-Dive is set to open at 107 N. Main St. in Cape Girardeau, where Roxy's Big Country Saloon formerly resided.

* Retail clothing store Southern Style, 823 Broadway in Cape Girardeau, was awarded a business license.

* Nail salon Star Nails, 97 N. Kingshighway Suite 6 in Cape Girardeau, was awarded a business license.

* Orange Monkey, located inside West Park Mall across from the former Pasta House location, officially changed its name from LeBounce Too as of Oct. 31, according to a news release. John Haggerty, previous owner of LeBounce Too, and his new business partner, Dana Hukel, said in the release the changes are to encourage fun for youth, teenagers and adults.

New inflatable bouncers, paintball, bazooka ball, zorb balls, bumper balls, a two-story zip line and an arcade are some of the activities available. Adults also can participate in the activities.

Orange Monkey is open from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday.

* The City of Cape Girardeau celebrated the opening of its first dog park, Dog Town Playground, on Saturday at Kiwanis Park.

The fenced park covers approximately one acre and has separate areas for small and large dogs. Each area has amenities such as a tunnel, dog water fountain, fire hydrant, picnic tables and disposal containers.

The dog park was selected as a special project by the Cape Girardeau City Council and funded in accordance with the city's casino revenue strategy.

* One Accord Counseling will celebrate its opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. Monday at 1200 N. Kingshighway in Cape Girardeau. The center offers individual, family and couple counseling for children, teenagers and adults.

United Way of Southeast Missouri wins user review award

The United Way of Southeast Missouri was honored with a 2013 Top-Rated Award by GreatNonprofits, a provider of user reviews about not-for-profit organizations, according to a news release.

The Top-Rated Nonprofits award was based on the large number of positive reviews written by volunteers, donors and clients the United Way of Southeast Missouri received, the release said.

While the Top-Rated Awards run through the end of October, United Way of Southeast Missouri was part of the inaugural group to qualify for the year.

Merry Maids wins several awards at national seminar

Merry Maids Cape Girardeau was awarded several recognitions at the 2013 Merry Maids National Seminar, including the 2013 U-Can Rookie of the Year Award, 100 Grand Award and three Circle Awards, according to a news release.

The National Seminar was in October at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel in Nashville, Tenn.

The U-Can Rookie of the Year Award recognizes the top new Merry Maids franchise based on performance in its first 26 weeks of operation, the release said. The 100 Grand Award recognizes a Merry Maids operation's growth from one year to the next. The franchise also earned three Circle Awards in its first year, the release said. The Circle Award is given to Merry Maids franchise owners and managers for reaching or maintaining specific weekly sales levels during the previous year.
