The University of Missouri Cape Girardeau County Extension Office- Small Business Technology and Development Center will offer a business course to recently dislocated workers for free, according to a news release from the office.

"How to Start a Business in Missouri" will be at 2 p.m. Nov. 26 at the Workforce Investment Board, 760 S. Kingshighway in Cape Girardeau.

The class is offered free of charge to recently dislocated workers -- their cost covered by the University of Missouri Career Options Grant, the release said. To qualify for the free admission, attendees must be registered at the local Missouri Career Center. All registrants will be checked by the Career Center personnel to ensure that no one who qualifies has to pay.

The fee is $40 and is payable in advance of the class for those who are not a recently dislocated worker, but who still would like to attend the class.

The course will cover business ownership and planning, marketing, financing and other topics, according to the release. All participants will receive a notebook containing contact information, guides to get started, idea evaluation worksheets and tips on a business plan.

To register, call 243-3581. Seating is limited to 15. More opportunities will be added as needed. A minimum of four is required to have the class.

* West Bank Bistro, 340 S. Lorimer St. in Cape Girardeau, had its last day of business Thursday. According to the bistro's Facebook page, if a gift certificate has not been redeemed, contact the bistro and they will "work it out." West Bank Bistro also announced it still will host the Humane Society Dessert Auction from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday before it becomes a residence.

* The River and Lakes Group of the Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company LLC, a dredging and marine construction company, is in the process of moving equipment to the previous site of the Cape Girardeau Sand Plant at 1350 N. Water St. in Cape Girardeau. The property will be used as a repair facility for dredges and equipment, confirmed communications specialist for the company Scott McMahon.

* A business license was issued for Munchies, a restaurant at 435 Morgan Oak in Cape Girardeau.

* A business license was issued for Plaza Azteca Family Grill, a restaurant at 1036 N. Sprigg St. in Cape Girardeau.

* Elite Travel Agency will celebrate its remodeling and expansion with a ribbon-cutting at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at its location, 354 S. Silver Springs Road, Suite C, in Cape Girardeau.

* 531 Wash House, an antique shop in Uniontown, Mo., celebrated an open house in late September. The shop was opened by longtime friends Ruth Rellergert and Kathy Renner in June and occupies the original wash house and brick house it sits behind on County Road 531.

Southeast Hospital receives cardiology performance award

Southeast Hospital received the American College of Cardiology Foundation's ACTION Registry -- GWTG Platinum Performance Achievement Award for the second year in a row, according to a news release from the hospital. Only 197 hospitals nationwide received the 2013 award.

To receive the Platinum Performance Achievement Award, Southeast followed the treatment guidelines for eight consecutive quarters and met a performance standard of 90 percent for specific performance measures, according to the release.

"The American College of Cardiology Foundation and the American Heart Association commend Southeast Hospital for its success in implementing standards of care and protocols. The full implementation of acute and secondary prevention guideline-recommended therapy is a critical step in saving the lives and improving outcomes of heart attack patients," said ACTION Registry – GWTG co-chairs James Jollis, MD, FACC, and Deepak L. Bhatt, MD, MPH, FACC, FAHA.
