Construction started on a new Missouri medium-maximum security prison at Bowling Green last week.
The Northeast Correctional Center on 112 acres adjacent to the Bowling Green airport will house 1,975 inmates.
The prison is expected to be ready for occupancy in September 1997.
J.S. Alberici Construction Co. Inc. is the primary contractor for the prison and will use a new innovative construction technique.
The new prison will be built with poured-in-place concrete with a masonry exterior and metal roof on a steel structural system call "tunnel forming."
Tunnel forming is a technique that uses an integrated set of wall and ceiling/floor forms repetitively as concrete is poured, much like an on-site assembly line, saving time and money on building projects.
