Westvaco Corp. and Southern Illinois University-Carbondale have entered into a cooperative research study to provide baseline inventory data of reptiles and amphibians on the Westvaco Wildlife Management Area in western Kentucky.
Westvaco biologists and foresters want to examine how various management activities affect some of the smallest inhabitants in their forests.
The 3,400-acre Westvaco WMA in Carlisle and Hickman counties, was established in 1991 with the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources.
The project provides habitat for ducks and geese and also provides wood for the company's fine paper mills in Wickliffe.
