Westvaco has received the 1998 Forest Stewardship Award from the National Hardwood Lumber Association.
The award, established to recognize and promote responsible stewardship of hardwood forests, was presented recently during the annual NHLA Convention held at St. Louis.
Westvaco, a major manufacturer of paper, packaging and specialty chemicals, was reviewed in five areas -- public educaiton, political involvement, education of private forest owners, forest stewardship in the woods and resource utilization.
Westvaco includes a large paper operation at Wickliffe, Ky., and purchases timber from many Southeast Missouri and Southern Illinois lumber people.
