Sonic Drive-Ins in a half-dozen sites in Missouri, Illinois and Kentucky have been named second-round winners in the Dr. Pepper Super Sonic Games competition and are eligible for third-round competition to determine the "Top 10" Sonic Restaurants.
The six area restaurants among 300, out of more than 1,590, to reach the third-level are:
-- 530 S. Hope, Jackson,
-- 216 N. Main, Sikeston,
-- Highway 60, Dexter,
-- Highway 34/Legion, Piedmont,
-- 1013 E. Fifth, Metropolis, Ill.
-- 1002 Paris Road, Mayfield, Ky.
During second-round competition, all competing stores were "mystery shopped."
Third-round competition will narrow the list to 10 restaurants, which will win national recognition and a trip to Dallas to compete in the national championships in March.
Sonic Drive-Ins provide cooked-to-order food served by carhops who deliver the food directly to customers' cars. Sonic has almost 1,600 drive-ins in 27 states.
