Illinois is attracting more overseas visitors than ever before.
According to the latest statistics released by the United States Department of Commerce, overseas visitors to Illinois increased 5.2 percent in 1999, with an economic impact of more than $1.85 billion to the state.
More than 1.3 million overseas travelers visited Illinois in 1999, up from 1.2 million in 1998. Statistics show Illinois maintained its ranking as the sixth most popular state for overseas travelers. Chicago remained the 9th most popular city in the U.S. among overseas visitors.
The top five destinations for the overseas crowd are California, Florida, New York, Hawaii and Nevada.
