Kmart spent more $27 million to refit a total of 45 former Venture Stores across the Midwest -- including nine in the St. Louis area, and 24 in the Chicago area -- which opened as Big Ks recently.

Three of the former Venture sites replaced existing Kmart operations.
Kmart has 22 stores and about 3,200 workers in the St. Louis area, 21 of them Big Ks.
More than half of Kmrt's 2,160 stores nationally have been converted to the Big K format.
