Schindler's Family Tavern in New Hamburg, Mo., is under new ownership.
Jason and Jenny Grojean have purchased the longtime landmark, known as Schindler's since 1934, from Brenda Schwepker, the owner for the past 8 1/2 years.
The Grojeans live in Fruitland, Mo. Jenny is originally from Peoria, Ill. Jason was born in New Hamburg, grew up in Texas, but spent his summers with his grandparents, Charles and Erma Grojean in New Hamburg.
The famous "Baloney Burger" will remain on the menu at Schindler's and fish fries will continue to be held the first Friday of each month. Schindler's is a member of the SEMO Horseshoe League, and the tournaments will continue to be held. Grojean also plans to have shooting matches starting this fall, and to host the 17th annual Kow Pasture Klassic next spring.
The tavern has a 125-year history sitting on top one of the highest hills in Scott County.
