The city received a $150,000 Rural Business Enterprise Grant (RBEG), presented by the United States Department of Agriculture Rural Development in Illinois.

The RBEG program is designed for rural communities that wish to develop business growth through development of infrastructure and facilities. The Mounds grant came from a special funding pool designed for assistance to empowerment zone.

Mounds is in Southern Illinois in Pulaski County, one of three counties included in the Southernmost Illinois Delta Empowerment Zone (SIDEZ).
