The Associated Electric Cooperative Inc., power plant at New Madrid established new operating records in January.
Units 1 and 2 at the plant combined to produce 821,576 megawatt-hours of power, surpassing the previous record of 804,781, established in January 1982.
The new one-month generation record is notable because it was achieved after switching to low-sulfur coal, a move that typically decreases generation levels, said Larry Braun senior performance specialist.
The two units combined to burn 449,063 tons of coal, breaking a previous record of 443,574 tons in January 1996.
