Dana Corporation, headquartered in Toledo, Ohio, has reported 1991 third-quarter sales of $1.08 billion and net income of $5 million.
This compares to sales of $1.2 billion and net income of $16.8 million for the same period in 1990.
Sales for the nine months ending in September were $3.2 billion, down 14 percent from the $3.7 billion in sales during the same period in 1990.
Southwood J. Morcott, chairman and chief executive officer, said: "Dana's sales through the first nine months of this year are off more than $500 million compared to last year. The worldwide highway vehicular market, which accounts for 46 percent of Dana's sales, is 18 percent lower through the first nine months than it was a year ago.
"The decline in the highway vehicle market alone represented over $300 million less sales and affected the company's profits. But, we have seen some indications for a modest increase within the highway vehicle market during the most recent quarter, and feel that recovery, while inevitable, will be gradual."

POPLAR BLUFF Libla Industries Inc. of Poplar Bluff has received the 1991 Ozark Chapter Industrial Award from the Sierra Club.
In presenting the award, the chapter recognized David W. Libla, chairman and chief executive of the company, for his innovative efforts in establishing First National Pallet Rental Inc. in St. Louis.
Libla's new concept encourages reuse of pallets between 20 and 30 times, with proper maintenance and repair, rather than one-time use. It reduces the amount of hardwoods used in pallet production by as much as 80 percent, said a spokesman.
Once pallets are beyond repair they are recycled, creating products such as fuel, animal bedding and shrubbery mulch.
Libla was recognized earlier this year as 1991 Missouri Small, Business Person of the Year. He founded Libla Industries in 1973 at Greenville as a pallet brokerage firm. Today, Libla Industries and its affiliates, all Missouri-based corporations, generate annual sales of more than $30 million.
