Baseball cards, coins, jewelry, stamps and other collectibles will be displayed at the Cape Girardeau Collectors Show Friday through Sunday at the Holiday Inn here.

Show hours will be from noon to 6 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.

JACKSON Handling household wastes will be discussed during a University of Missouri Extension satellite video-conference at the Extension center here Sept. 22.

The conference is aimed at people who handle wastes, public works professionals and county decision-makers.

The 90-minute program starts at 12:30 p.m. and will include topics on comparing special collection days vs. permanent collection sites; applying for an Environmental Protection Agency grant; using volunteers to cut costs; and forecasting regulations.

"This issue has become an important one since Missouri's new Solid Wastes Management Law requires waste districts across the state to develop plans for managing household hazardous wastes," said Marie Steinwachs, assistant director of the University of Missouri's Extension Household Hazardous Wastes Project.

"Rural counties have trouble collecting and handling household hazardous wastes," said Susan Mills, regional nutrition and health specialist. "This conference will present practical ways to get this done, along with some new ideas on how to get the funds to cover these costs."

The Missouri Tourism Commission will meet Sept. 29 at the Cedar Stone Lodge near Eminence.

The business session will be held from 9 a.m. to noon.

Schnucks Markets Inc. has opened its third super center in the Kansas City area, at the southeast corner of Santa Fe (135th Street) and Mur-Len in Olathe, Kan.

The 55,000-square-foot store replaces the former Food 4 Less store, which Schnucks purchased from Fleming Co. in May.

Schnucks also has stores in Overland Park and Shawnee, both in the Kansas City area.

Schnucks opened its first retail store in St. Louis in 1939. It now has 62 supermarkets in four states: Illinois, Indiana, Kansas and Missouri.

The Cape Girardeau Schnucks is at 19 S. Kingshighway.

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. A total of 26 Illinois Small Business Development Centers will continue efforts to promote business growth.

Gov. Jim Edgar has announced funds totaling more than $2.6 million to assist in the operation of 26 centers and 15 Procurement Assistance Centers for fiscal year 1993.

"Small businesses are the fastest growing segment of Illinois economy," said Edgar.

Southern Illinois University-Carbondale will receive $136,300. SIU is also responsible for centers at three area junior colleges: Shawnee Community College near Ullin, Rend Lake College near Ina, and Southeast Illinois College at Harrisburg.

Farm & Home Financial Corp.'s Board of Directors has declared dividends for the third quarter of 1992. The dividends will be payable Sept. 30 to record holders on Sept. 4.

The company will pay 12 cents a share for common stock, 24 cents for series B and C preferred, and 32 cents per share for series D and E preferred.

Farm & Home is a $3.4 billion holding company whose principal subsidiary is Farm & Home Savings, headquartered in Nevada, Mo. Farm & Home has a branch at 221 Silver Springs Road.

ST. LOUIS Bradley B. Buechler, Spartech president and chief executive officer, reported an increase in its operation earnings for the third quarter, which ended Aug. 1.

The firm had net earnings of $1.2 million compared to a net loss of $2 million during the same quarter a year ago. Revenues were $44 million for the third quarter, up from the $40.5 million for the same period a year ago.

"Our rigid sheet division, Spartech Plastics, recorded excellent results in the third quarter," said Buechler. "Spartech Plastics' sales volume increased by more than 20 percent during the period. We are especially pleased with our results during the quarter. As we head into the fourth quarter backlogs remain strong, and we are looking forward to a continuation of our recent financial turnaround."

Local Spartech companies include Atlas-Alchem Plastics, 1 Atlas Drive, and Resin Exchange, Nash Road Industrial Park.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. Shoney's Inc. has announced record revenues for the 133rd consecutive quarter and a 27 percent increase in net income for the third quarter of 1992.

Leonard H. Roberts, chairman and chief executive, said revenues climbed 5 percent, to $257,142,000. Net income was up 27 percent, from $12,084,000 to 15,383,000.

Net income for the year is up 33 percent, from $28.7 million this time a year ago to $38.2 million. Total revenues are up, from $758.4 million to $811.2 million.

Shoney's had an increase of 71 new restaurants 64 franchised units and seven company-owned during the first three quarters of 1992.

The local Shoney's is at 161 West Street.
