The electrical store is open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday through Friday and from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday. The lighting showroom is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday through Friday, and from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Accurate Transmissions will open for business today at 520 S. Hope in Jackson.

The new Jackson business specializes in rebuilding foreign and domestic transmissions.

"We do them all," said Jeff Davidson, owner and operator of the business.

The business will operate with Davidson and one employee. Combined, the two mechanics have 16 years of experience.

"I just wanted to go out on my own," said Davidson, explaining why he decided to open his own business.

The business offers free towing for major overhauls. Hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Carpet Connection will open today at 330 S. Kingshighway.

"We needed a lot more room," said Connie Fodge, co-owner. "Our business has grown quite a bit in the past four years we've been in business," she said.

With the move, Carpet Connection has doubled its space to 5,000-6,000 square feet, Fodge said. In addition to carpet, it will be selling ceramics and area rugs in the store, she said.

"We're only moved a couple of blocks," Fodge said, "but we will be much more visible on the highway, and I am confident that our oldcustomers as well as new ones will find us also."

Carpet Connection is in the Blattner Building that formerly housed Lowell's and Silo.

Mo' Better Videos and Ethiopian Ocean Books and Artifacts has opened at 1030 Broadway.

The video store contains classic videos along with documentaries, concert music videos and children's videos along with new arrivals.

The book store specializes in books by and for people of African descent and contains books on African world history, said owner Rathael Fambro. "We also import artifacts from Africa such as wooden carvings and baskets to sell here," he said.

Both stores are open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m.-9 p.m.

Mo' Better Videos is owned by Andrew Johnson and Ethiopian Ocean Books and Artifacts is owned by Fambro and his wife Tonya Fambro.

Ponderosa opened at its new location last week.

"We needed more room, and the new location offers a lot more seating and also banquet facilities," said manager Ted Zanells. "We have also done extensive remodeling in the entire building."

Pondersoa's is now at 45 S. Kingshighway in what was formerly Bonanza Steakhouse.

Option Care, 61 Doctors' Park, was recently aaccredited with commendation by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.

This is the highest level of accretion awarded by the joint commission, which is the nation's oldest and largest accrediting body.

"Receiving accreditation with commendation is a significant achievement, one that recognizes exemplary performance by Option Care," said Dennis D. O'Leary, Joint Commission president. "The organization should be commended for its commitment to providing quality care to the people in its community."

"This is the 30th consecutive year Massey Ferguson has earned this leadership position," said Graeme Leonard, vice president of Massey Ferguson North American operations. "Preliminary figures for last year show the company maintained its lead in world tractor sales, outstripping its nearest rival by more than 40 percent."

Massey Ferguson markets tractors, implements, combines and haying equipment in 160 countries through more than 5,000 dealers and distributors. Heuer Sons Implement Co. in Cape Girardeau is a distributor.

Edward D. Jones & Co. has kicked off its search for the winners of the Edward D. Jones & Co. Award for Non-profit Innovation and Excellence.

"This award will recognize outstanding programs and events sponsored by non-profit organizations throughout the nation," said Robert N. Etherton, local investment representative. "Selection will be based upon innovation, success, management and the ability of these programs or events to be implemented by other groups."

The contest is open to all organizations with a 501(c)(3) designation. Application forms for the award are available at the Edward D. Jones & Co. office at 1430 Sunny Tree Lane. Entries must be submitted no later than Sept. 10.
