The Small Business Development Center will conduct counseling sessions in three areas this month.
The counselor, Gil Degenhardt, will be available Aug. 25 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce office. The counseling sessions (about one hour) are free. Call 335-3312 for an appointment.
He will conduct sessions at the Sikeston Chamber of Commerce Aug. 24, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Appointments are available by calling 471-2498.
He will hold sessions at the Southeast Missouri Regional Planning office in Perryville Aug. 26 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Appointments are available by calling 547-8357.
The Small Business Development Center represents a "Partnership for Economic Development" between Southeast Missouri State University, the Small Business Administration, local financial institutions, area utility companies and Southeast Missouri municipalities. The goal of the center is to stimulate diversity and growth in small business by assisting new and existing businesses to become more productive and profitable.

Ed Leoni, chairman of the Health and Leisure Department at Southeast Missouri State University, will address the Advertising Federation of Southeast Missouri during a noon meeting Aug. 12 at Drury Lodge in Cape Girardeau.
"Stuff Happens" is the topic of his talk, which will offer a look at life's daily problems and provide solutions.
The federation is a newly formed affiliate of the American Advertising Federation.
The social hour starts at 11:30 a.m., to be followed by the luncheon.
Non-members interested in attending should call Kim Mitchell, 334-7100, for reservations. A fee of $15 will be charged for the luncheon.

Thomas F. Clark, who sculptures gnomes, mountaineers, woodspirits and seafaring characters for Cairn Studio, will be in Cape Girardeau Friday.
Clark will visit Tobacco Lane in West Park Mall from 4 to 7 p.m., demonstrating his sculpturing and signing his sculptures.
Tobacco Lane has been a Cairn Studio collectors's center since 1988.
"Collectors can bring up to two pieces with them for Clark to autograph," said Ralph Sharp, manager of the store.

ST. LOUIS The new Drury Inn hotel directly across the highway from Lambert International Airport at Natural Bridge and Edmundson Roads in St. Louis opened last week.
Darryl Fenner is general manager of the new six-story hotel, which features 173 rooms.
The hotel is owned by Druco Inc., a St. Louis real-estate and development company, and will be operated by Drury Inns Inc.
A former Drury Inn about a half-mile west in the area has been converted to a Hampton Inn.
Drury Inns Inc. owns, operates and, or, manages more than 60 Drury Inns, Pear Tree Inn by Drury, Thrifty Inn and Hampton Inn hotels in 11 states. Drury operates 1,756 rooms in the St. Louis are, making it one of the largest hotel operators in the city.

Dana Corporation's quarterly sales and profits increased significantly during the second quarter of 1993.
The firm, a leading American international automotive and industrial parts supplier with a facility in Cape Girardeau, reported consolidated net income of $36.6 million for the quarter, up 167 percent over net income of $13.7 million during the same period of 1992.
Earnings per share for the second quarter of '93 were 80 cents, compared to 32 cents for the second quarter of 1992. Sales for the second quarter were $1.4 billion.
"We're pleased with the company's progress in the second quarter." said Southwood J. Morcott, chairman and chief executive officer. "Our sales and earnings exceeded our expectations and Dana stock closed the month of June at an all-time high of $54.25."

Spirit Holding Co. Inc. has retained the investment banking firm of Smith Barney, Harris Upham and Co. Inc. to help sell its 25-store Central Hardware chain and Witte Hardware, its wholesale distribution division.
"We believe that the sale of the business as an ongoing concern is the best way to maximize the value of the company for all of our constituents," said Neil A. Marglous, president of Spirit Holding and its two operating subsidiaries, Central and Witte Hardware.
The New York banking firm will start the solicitation and offer process immediately. At least one letter of intent to buy the business will be submitted by Sept. 15, said Marglous,
Central Hardware and Witte Hardware filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in late March. Several of the stores, including the operation at Cape Girardeau, are to close.

OAK BROOK, Ill. - McDonald's Corp. says its profits rose 15 percent in the second quarter because of strong sales growth overseas and successful promotions in the United States.
Net income for the three months that ended June 30 rose to $288.8 million, or 78 cents per share, from $254.1 million, or 69 cents per share, for the same period a year earlier.
Revenues climbed 6 percent, to $1.9 billion from $1.8 billion, McDonald's said in a statement from its headquarters.
Systemwide sales, encompassing restaurants owned by the company, its franchisees and affiliates, rose 11 percent, to $6 billion from $5.4 billion.
U.S. sales grew 8 percent in the quarter. Sales outside of the United States rose 15 percent.

ST. LOUIS - Anheuser-Busch Cos. Inc. said its second-quarter earnings were boosted slightly by a new marketing campaign for Budweiser.
The company said that earnings rose less than 1 percent, to $308.6 million, or $1.11 a share, in the three months ended June 30, compared with $308.4 million, or $1.06 a share, in the same period last year. Sales were up 1.3 percent, from $3.38 billion last year to $3.43 billion this year.
The company attributed the slight rise in earnings to the introduction of its "Proud To Be Your Bud" advertising campaign.
