Chamber hands out awards for holiday lights
Members of the Cape Girardeau Area Chamber of Commerce's Community Beautification and Enhancement Committee were out and about in the community Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. selecting winners of homes and businesses decorated for the holiday season. Committee members chose two residential and one commercial display from each of seven areas of the city.
Residential winners of this year's Holiday of Lights are: James Phegley, 4245 Hopper Road; George and Amee Carver, 1413 Eastview Ridge Drive; Bob and Teresa Bauer, 912 Karau Lane; Carl and Betty Sims, 1909 Drury Lane; Jennifer Vaughn, 1731 Sherwood Drive; Mitch and Julia Kinder, 2531 Carriage Crossing; Pete Poe, 941 E. Rodney Ave.; Ron Propst, 2806 Gordonville Road; Neal Peterman, 2624 Melrose; Chuck and Teresa Fulford, 1989 Longview Drive; Gene Pyle, 244 Capaha Trail; John Perry and Steven Williams, 630 North St.; Marie Kuehn-LeClere, 418 S. Benton St.; John and Vicki McLemore, 120 Louis St.
Commercial Holiday of Lights winners are: Fountainbleu Lodge, 2001 N. Kingshighway; HealthPoint Plaza, 2126 Independence St.; Saint Francis Medical Center, 211 Saint Francis Drive; Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1820 Perryville Road; D'Ladium, 1127 Broadway; Hutson Furniture, 43 S. Main St.
The Saint Francis Medical Center Foundation will hold the fifth annual Luminaries for Life campaign at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Saint Francis Healing Garden, 211 Saint Francis Drive. The event features a lighted display of more than 10,000 lights and raises funds for specialized services, such as the Saint Francis Stroke Center. The evening begins with a reading of the names of those recognized by Luminaries for Life donors, followed by a brief informal service of scriptures, music and fellowship.
