Local Modern Woodmen of America families gathered on Nov. 15 to learn more about high blood pressure. The program featured blood pressure screening by LaDonna Wilson of Southeast Missouri Hospital. The Modern Woodmen of America is a fraternal benefit society that offers financial services and fraternal member benefits to individuals and families.

Deadline looms for three NRCS programs

Missouri landowners interested in participating in the Environmental Quality Incentives Program, the Wetlands Reserve Program or the Wildlife Habitat Incentives Program need to apply by Jan. 14 to be eligible for the next round of funding. These programs are administered through the Natural Resources Conservation Service.

To sign up for these programs or for more information, call the U.S. Department of Agriculture service centers in Cape Girardeau County at 243-1467, Scott County at 545-3593 or Bollinger County at 238-2671. More information is available via the Internet at www.mo.nrcs.usda.gov/ programs.

Promotion provides Salvation Army dinners

Big River Telephone Co. has kicked off its annual holiday promotion in conjunction with Schnucks, the Salvation Army, Soft Rock 104.7 and B98. As part of the promotion, Big River is offering its customers and the public vouchers to Schnucks in Cape Girardeau. By presenting a voucher to a check-out counter at Schnucks and donating $10, an area family registered with the Salvation Army will receive a turkey dinner this holiday season. The promotion will run through Dec. 31.

Tri-State AMP taking entries for 2004 ADDYs

The annual Tri-State Advertising and Marketing Professionals ADDY Awards Banquet will be held Feb. 25 at the Drury Lodge in Cape Girardeau. The competition recognizes exceptional advertising created in the Cape Girardeau, Paducah, Ky., and Harrisburg, Ill., market in all forms of media.

The deadline for entries, which must be delivered to the Cape Girardeau Convention and Visitors Bureau, is 4 p.m. Jan. 12. To be eligible, entries must have been published or aired between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2004. To enter online, go to www.tristateamp. com/addyenter.htm.
