StarBrand picks dealer for Internet services

Network Communications has announced it has been selected by leading satellite Internet provider StarBrand as an authorized dealer of new high-speed satellite Internet services in Southeast Missouri and Southern Illinois. StarBrand provides two-way, high-speed Internet services for home users and small businesses.

Firefighters attend electrical safety session

Southern Illinois Electric Cooperative held an electrical safety training session for the Union County Fire Department on July 14. Six area departments were represented: Anna, Jonesboro, Ware-Wolf Lake, Alto Pass, Cobden and Dongola. Around 40 Union County Fire Department employees and volunteers attended the training at the Anna Fire Station. The subject was electrical safety for the firefighters. SIEC member services director Chris Boyd, utility serviceman Larry Joe Keller and the Association of Illinois Electric Cooperative's safety director Ken Macken presented safety tips and videos. Firefighters watched videos of meter and transformer explosions, sub-station fires, an arc cutting an electric line, car pole crashes, downed lines and structural fires.
