ArvinMeritor presented Chamber industry award

DEXTER -- Dexter Chamber of Commerce executive director Janet Coleman recently presented the Industry of the Year award to ArvinMeritor OE, LLC. Coleman said ArvinMeritor, a manufacturer of mufflers and tail pipes, has been a contributor to Dexter's economy for 28 years.

The company has increased its total jobs by more than 10 percent for the second year in a row with 62 jobs added in the last four months of 2003. The company currently employs 612 workers. Also in 2003, the company spent $1.6 million more in payroll over the previous year.

Coleman said another milestone for ArvinMeritor was the signing of a second consecutive six-year UAW Local 1930 contract, ensuring a further commitment of the industry to Dexter in the form of a planned expansion over the next two years. Coleman said details of the expansion will be announced in the near future.
