SIKESTON - There's a new grill in the neighborhood.

Applebee's, located between Lowe's and Office Max on South Main Street, officially opened its doors Oct. 21 to those who enjoy a casual dining experience.

Putting the emphasis on being a neighborhood bar and grill, the interior definitely has a Southeast Missouri decor. There are photos of Sikeston's past and present along with mementos from area high schools.

"We want to show we are part of the community," said Eddie Crouch, kitchen manager.

Crouch said the decision to expand into Sikeston was a result of the large following from the area at the Cape Girardeau Applebee's.

"And because of the growth in Sikeston," added Crouch.

"Sikeston is growing by leaps and bounds and we wanted to be part of that."

The new restaurant, with seating for approximately 98, employs 114 area residents in full- and part-time positions. Heading up the operation is Rich Lucy, general manager. The management also includes David Freeman, bar manager, and Ron Woodard, assistant general manager.

Describing the first days of operation as going smoothly, Crouch said customers have found a full selection of Applebee's favorites such as the onion peels and buffalo chicken wings from the appetizer menu to the entrees of grilled steak or chicken, pastas, hamburgers and ribs. Also popular is the restaurant's dessert selections.
