KENNETT -- Employees at 1000 Great-West Drive in Kennett are experiencing yet another change. In 1997 they began working for General American Life Insurance Co., in offices located in what was once the K-Mart building. Great-West Life and Annuity Insurance Co. then took over operations and the employees worked for a new company. Last week Affiliated Computer Services (ACS), headquartered in Dallas, Texas, took over management of the Kennett facility.
The ACS Kennett facility manager is Jason Miller. Miller started with ACS in 1990. According to Miller, he began working in the facilities department and worked his way up. He said he worked in departments including facilities, shipping, telemarketing, production, scanning and the mailroom.
Miller said he has spent the previous seven years managing mailroom and scanning offices in Philadelphia, Penn., Dallas, Texas, and Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.
Linda Graham, the marketing director for ACS, said that "ACS has made a commitment to Kennett." She indicated that Great-West has been a client of ACS for awhile and has now contracted with ACS to manage the Kennett facility.
Graham said the jobs of those previously employed by Great-West are secure. In fact, she said ACS is looking to add about 30 people to the staff at Kennett.
The facility was opened in January 1997, employing some 30 people. Currently, there are more than 100 employees working there.
ACS is a Fortune 500 company that provides diversified business process outsourcing and information technology services. ACS supports operations in nearly 100 countries with $4 billion in annual revenues.
