An 81-year-old Dexter, Mo., woman was seriously injured Sunday in an accident west of Dexter.
Janie Edwards was taken to St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau after the noon accident at the U.S. 60 and Highway 51 junction, 8 miles west of Dexter.
The driver of the other vehicle, Allen Clark, 41, of Fisk, Mo., was not injured.
According to the Missouri Highway Patrol, Edwards turned left from the driving lane of the highway across the passing lane in the path of the Clark vehicle.
Lonnie McWhirter, 26, and Tonya McWhirter, 29, both of Sikeston, Mo., were seriously injured early Monday morning in an accident on County Road 450, a mile east of Grant City in Scott County. Both were taken to Missouri Delta Medical Center after the 2 a.m. crash.
According to the patrol, Lonnie McWhirter lost control of his vehicle, overcorrected and struck several trees. He was cited for driving while intoxicated, careless and imprudent driving and failure to wear a seat belt.
In a separate accident at 11:45 Monday morning, Tracey Floyd, 21, of Marble Hill, Mo., was seriously injured when her vehicle overturned on Route B, two miles south of Scopus, Mo. She was taken to Southeast Missouri Hospital.
Passengers Sherri Cook, 24, and Pleasant Cook, 3, both of Marble Hill, were taken to the same hospital with moderate injuries.
According to the patrol, Floyd's vehicle ran off the right side of the road, struck a mailbox and slid off the left side of the road when she overcorrected. All the occupants were thrown from vehicle when it overturned.
A summons was issued for no seat belt, no child restraint and failure to drive on the right half of the road.
